The Secret in My Husband’s Sofa Chapter 04 The Slap

Seeing this, Dad started shaking with fury.

He swung his hand and slapped me hard across the face.

“Olivia! How long are you going to keep being this stubborn? Do you know how much Adrian has given to this family? Are you blind? The paternity test is right there in front of you. You’d still tear this family apart?”

The slap landed with a sharp crack, full force behind it.

My cheek bloomed red and swollen within seconds.

The crowd around me erupted into chatter.

Some pointed at me, calling me cold-blooded and worse.

Others held their phones up and lamented how cruel women could be these days.

The love in Adrian’s eyes had drained away completely, replaced by fury.

As he looked at me, the last spark of hope in his eyes flickered out.

“Adrian, see you in court.” My hand pressed to my burning cheek, my voice came out low but eerily clear.

Adrian roared back. “Fine. You’re really something, Olivia. Have it your way. See you in court!”

I didn’t look at him. I just turned to the surging crowd, voice cold. “Move.”

Mom and Dad reached for me again, but I shook them off.

I pointed at the door. “Get out. You’re not welcome here.”

For the next five days, I shut off my phone and stayed alone in the hotel.

It wasn’t until the day of the hearing that I walked into the courtroom, right on time.

Adrian sat at the plaintiff’s table with our baby in his arms, the little one pecking up at me.

Vivian sat pressed close beside him, her eyes locked on me with pure hostility.

Both sets of parents sat in the gallery. Mom and Dad were sighing nonstop, while Charles and

Hazel glared daggers.

The moment I sat down, Mom leaned over and dropped her voice. “Olivia, you need to apologize to Adrian right now and beg him to forgive you. Your dad asked around. In this situation, you’re going to walk away with nothing!”

Vivian suddenly shot to her feet, pointing at me and shouting. “Olivia, stop being so stubborn! Adrian said if you just apologize, he’ll pretend none of this ever happened. Do you really want to walk out of this family with nothing?”

Charles slammed the table. “Hmph! For the kid’s sake, you can still beg forgiveness. Refuse, and I’ll make sure you don’t even have a roof over your head!”

I leaned back in my chair, my fingertips tapping the tabletop, and didn’t say a word the whole time.

The judge rapped her gavel and turned a serious look on me.

“Defendant, Olivia Donovan, the plaintiff, Mr. Donovan, has accused you of emotional abuse throughout the marriage. Based on the evidence presented, you are clearly at fault. Without new evidence, the court will rule that you walk away with nothing.”

Everyone in the courtroom knew what I’d done. The ruling left them seething, like they wished the court had handed down a death sentence.

The judge studied me, brow furrowing slightly. She clearly didn’t approve of my silence.

Just as she was about to bring down the gavel and finalize the verdict, my lawyer suddenly stood up. “Your Honor, we have new evidence to submit.”
