When the Fake Heiress Ate Her Words Chapter 07

“What!” Ethan roared in disbelief.

Claire’s face instantly went deathly pale. She instinctively protested. “That’s impossible! You’re lying.

Ethan is the only man I’ve ever been with!”

Dr. Langford looked uncomfortable and quickly explained, “I’m not lying. Yesterday I received word that

Ms. Claire wasn’t feeling well, so I rushed over to examine her.

“When I arrived, Ms. Amanda told me that Ms. Claire didn’t want to see a doctor, so I drew some blood

while she was sleeping to run tests. That’s when I discovered she was pregnant.

“Then Ms. Amanda asked me to run a paternity test. The results showed that the child is definitely not

related to you.”

As he finished speaking, murmurs broke out around the room.

“Give me a break. This woman’s love life is a complete mess. I don’t know what this guy was thinking,

actually believing her!”

“And he kept saying she was innocent and kind. What a joke. Poor bastard!”

“If you ask me, she’ll never figure out who the father is!”

Hearing the comments, Ethan’s expression grew darker and darker.

Claire frantically grabbed at his sleeve, tears streaming down her face. “I didn’t. Ethan, you have to

believe me.”

Watching her cry, Ethan’s expression softened slightly. I quickly seized the moment and coughed lightly

before speaking in a leisurely tone. “If you’re not sure, why don’t you just go to the hospital and get a

proper paternity test?”

Something sparked in Ethan’s eyes. He grabbed Claire and started dragging her toward the door.

“Ethan! No! I don’t want to go! This baby is definitely yours. How can you doubt me?”

She sobbed hysterically, looking utterly humiliated. But this time, Ethan didn’t relent. He pulled her forcefully toward the exit, his face frighteningly dark.

“We’re going! Claire, it’s just a test. If you haven’t done anything wrong, what are you afraid of? If you’ve betrayed me, I’ll never forgive you, Claire!”

I watched them leave with interest, then shook my head. I’d already told her that lies have consequences. She should have listened. Now look where that got her.

I turned to Mom and Dad, who looked devastated. I adjusted my expression and went over to support them. “Mom, Dad, don’t worry. If this baby turns out to be Ethan’s, that would be a good thing. But if it’s

not…”

I sighed, letting a hint of grievance creep into my voice. “Then Claire really is…

“Her own personal life is a disaster, but she blamed everything on me. She accused me of getting pregnant out of wedlock with a murderer, when all along it was her. But never mind. I’m used to being wrongly accused. It’s fine.”

I forced out a few tears. Mom immediately pulled me into her arms with sympathy. “Amanda, you’ve been through so much. I never thought the girl we raised could do such things.”

Dad snorted coldly, his voice dripping with disgust. “She’s not a real Hartley after all. Of course she has no class! Everything she does is dirty and shameful. She even tried to seduce Ethan. Absolutely

shameless!

“She could never compare to you, Amanda, our real daughter. Don’t you worry. From now on, your mother and I will treat you well. We won’t let anyone treat you that way again!”

Hearing this, I looked up and smiled at them, though my heart remained completely unmoved. When Claire slandered me earlier, they didn’t even bother investigating. They immediately assumed I was

guilty.

Now that they knew Claire was the one who’d done something disgraceful, they praised me instead. Clearly, all they cared about was the Hartley family’s reputation.
