They Died And Came Back To Destroy Me Again Chapter 03

Caleb turned to look at me, arrogance flashing in his eyes.

“If you lose, you stay out of me and Vanessa’s business forever.”

Even now, his mind was still only on her.

A cold look flashed across my face. “And if you lose, you apologize to me. Publicly.”

Caleb’s eyes flickered with shock. “Don’t forget, you’ve only beaten me once.”

I smiled faintly. “Once is enough.”

After that, I took back the binder Vanessa had taken. Right in front of both of them, I burned it.

Vanessa cried bitterly, but I was tired of her fake tears.

From that day on, Caleb and Vanessa were inseparable.

The Thornton family car no longer stopped at my house, it went straight to Vanessa’s instead.

If they saw me on the street, they’d cross to the other side, like strangers.

Rumors spread around school that they’d been seen kissing in the library.

Every time the whispers started, they looked at me like I was the pathetic one left behind, but I didn’t care.

The loser is the pathetic one.

I thought after our confrontation, they’d leave me alone.

But I never expected Vanessa to come to me on her own.

She looked at me, her voice almost begging.

“Emma, I know you used to always let Caleb be first.”

“Can you do it one more time? For us?”

I looked at her coldly. “Why should I?”

Vanessa’s eyes grew wet. “I just don’t want Caleb to lose. If you want, I’ll back off. I’ll give him back to you…”

Seeing her like this made me feel disgusted. “Vanessa, I don’t have time for your act. Keep it up, and I’m leaving.”

The frailty vanished from Vanessa’s face, replaced by a cold expression.

“Emma, you really do know me best.”

She casually wiped away her tears.

Then she pulled out her phone and played a video.

The moment the sound started, I froze.

The video showed me cornered in an alley by some thugs, my clothes being torn off me.

I looked terrified, helpless, red-eyed and crying for help.

Vanessa smiled, her voice a blatant threat.

“Emma, what do you think would happen if the whole school found out that the class valedictorian is mixed up with street criminals?”

My face went cold as I stared at her. “Caleb told you about that?”

Vanessa tilted her head, feigning innocence. “Yeah, it took a lot to get it from him.”

She paused.

“I can’t believe you sacrificed yourself for him.”

“I’ve never been as good as you at anything. Caleb is the only one who chose me.”

“Emma, just let me have him. This one time. Okay?”

I looked at her quietly, feeling nothing but pity.

“So you want me to hold back on the SSEE? Lose on purpose?”

Vanessa nodded eagerly.

“You’re so smart. Even if you do a little worse, you can just repeat a year. It won’t matter to you.”

I slowly smiled, but it didn’t reach my eyes.

“Vanessa, you really don’t know me at all.”

“Post the video. I don’t care. And I won’t lose.”
