About twenty minutes later, the car pulled over to the curb.

I pushed the door open, got out, and looked up. I stopped in my tracks.

It was the French restaurant. The one Lowell had taken Mira to on the day I moved.

The one I had saved for so long, the one I had always wanted to go to.

I had mentioned it so many times.

Lowell had refused me just as many times.

But he had taken someone else there without a second thought.

“How did you know…”

I turned to Ethan, stunned.

He rubbed the back of his neck, smiling a little sheepishly.

“Figured it out that fast, huh?”

“I saw it in your saved collection on Instagram. What do you think? Pretty sharp, right?”

For some reason, in that moment, my eyes stung.

Someone who truly cared about you would remember these things on their own.

Even if you didn’t say it, they would notice.

Those little wishes you thought were unfulfilled weren’t little things in their eyes.

Seeing my silence, the smile on Ethan’s face slowly turned to nervousness.

“Indigo, do you not like this place? We can go somewhere else.”

“I like it. Let’s go in.”

What Lowell never gave me, I would give myself.

I didn’t need his belated regret.

No one had to make up for those seven years.

From now on, whatever I wanted, I would get it for myself.
