Since It’s Already Like This Chapter 05

I was still packing when my phone suddenly rang.

It was Lowell.

“Indigo, open the door. You actually changed the door code? What’s that supposed to mean?”

I was silent for a moment, then said, “It doesn’t mean anything. Lowell, let’s break up.”

But the person on the other end didn’t seem to hear me at all.

His tone was sharp.

“Mira remembered you wanted to eat at this restaurant. When you didn’t show up, she even packed you a doggy bag. And you changed the code and refused to open the door.”

“Indigo, stop making this into a thing.”

I didn’t know if he hadn’t heard me say the words, or if, like before, he was dismissing my attempt to break up as just another tantrum.

I was about to say it again when he hung up.

I looked at my phone and laughed.

Everyone knew I couldn’t leave Lowell.

Even Lowell himself believed it.

So he didn’t believe I would actually go.

The next day, I went to the mall to buy things for my new place.

I had just turned down an aisle when I ran right into two people.

Lowell was carrying several shopping bags, with Mira walking beside him.

When they saw me, both of them froze.

“Indy, don’t get the wrong idea,” Mira said quickly, trying to take my hand. “Lowell was just helping me carry some things. He was afraid I couldn’t manage on my own.”

But before she could reach me, Lowell pulled her behind him.

“Why are you explaining anything to her? After how she treated you yesterday, she still hasn’t apologized.”

He looked at Mira. “You spoil her too much. That’s why she can’t even tell who’s actually good to her.”
