Finally, Mr. Romano spoke, his voice cold.

“You will focus on the pregnancy. After three months, we will do a chorionic villus sampling and a DNA test.”

“If the child is truly a Romano, we will raise him.”

“But if not… you had better think very carefully about the consequences.”

As he said this, my parents and Isabel all shivered.

But Isabel still forced herself to hold her ground.

“The child is definitely Dante’s. You’ll see.”

I didn’t answer her. I simply took Marco’s hand and left the hospital.

He had already arranged our honeymoon.

Over the next three months, we went to Iceland to see the aurora borealis, to Turkey to ride in a hot-air balloon, and to Africa to watch the great migration.
