I looked at them and answered coolly.

“I’m twenty-three. I don’t need your permission to go anywhere or do anything.”

“This wedding dress is mine. And no one is taking it from me.”

Dad raised his hand and slapped me across the face.

Mom lunged forward, grabbing the fabric of my dress.

“Your sister likes it, so it’s hers. Now take it off.”

I tried to push her away, but Dante grabbed my wrist.

Under the dress, I was wearing only a strapless bra and panties.

He saw everything.

In that moment, a tremor of pure humiliation shot through me.

When he saw the tears welling in my eyes, he finally let go, allowing me to retreat to the fitting room to change.

When I emerged, Isabel was already wearing my dress.

Her face was a mask of triumph.

“I told you. This dress was always going to be mine.”

I started toward the manager.

But Mom grabbed my arm and dragged me back.

“Haven’t you made enough of a fool of yourself? The dress looks better on your sister. Get over it.”

Dad snatched my phone away.

“You’re to stay home. You can come out after your sister’s wedding.”

Before I could say another word, Dante nodded to his bodyguards.

The next second, I was shoved into a car.

Once the door closed, Dante leaned close to my ear, his voice a low, mocking laugh.

“Meredith, so you were just playing hard to get. You came here today because you wanted my attention, didn’t you?”

“Be a good girl. I’ll make you a promise. On my wedding night, Isabel gets the first half, and you get the second.”

After he spoke, he even pressed a key into my hand.

I spat in his face.

“Are you out of your mind? How can you even say something so disgusting? Stay away from me. Don’t even think about it.”

His face darkened instantly.

“Don’t push your luck. Besides me, who else would want a woman like you? You’d better think about it.”

After that, he had someone drive me back to the Bennett house.

Locked in my room, my hands trembled with rage.

Two days left.

I could hardly wait to see what would become of Dante.

When it happened, the Romanos would surely turn their anger on Isabel and my parents first.

But first, I had to sever all ties with them.

Late that night, I started smashing things in my room.

I made sure no one in that house got a wink of sleep.

But my parents still refused to let me out.

Left with no other choice, I set a fire.

That night, more than half of the Bennett house burned to the ground.

My parents were so furious they threw me out.

In the chaos, I got my phone back and called him.

He didn’t ask a single question, just sent a car to pick me up and take me to a sprawling, empty house.

For the next two days, I shut out the world and rested.

At last, the wedding day arrived.

When I walked into the hotel’s first-floor banquet hall wearing my custom wedding dress, my parents’ and Isabel’s faces all fell.

A flicker of surprise crossed Dante’s eyes before his expression darkened.

“Meredith. Dressed like that… are you trying to steal the groom? Have you no shame?”

I frowned.

I truly hadn’t expected those two disasters to pick the same hotel as me.

“You’re flattering yourself. I’m here to get married, too. Now move.”

Isabel lifted her skirt and walked up to me, the jealousy in her eyes impossible to hide.

“Sis, you’ve loved stealing my things since we were little. I can let you have the wedding dress, but I won’t give you Dante.”

As soon as she spoke, whispers rippled through the crowd.

“What does that mean? She stole the dress, and now she wants to steal the groom?”

My parents pushed through the crowd and hurried over.

“Meredith, are you insane? We lock you up to stop you from stealing your sister’s fiancé, and you try to burn the house down around us? Now you have the nerve to show up here and cause more trouble? Do you want us to call the police?”
