He Killed Me, Now I’ll Watch My Sister Ruin Him Chapter 02

In my last life, after Isabel disappeared, I tried to tell my parents her secret.

They refused to listen.

They just called me a vindictive liar and cut me out of their lives.

I tried to tell Dante, too.

But he never gave me the chance to speak.

He hung me from a helicopter, let me fall from the sky until I shattered on the ground below.

It was only as I was dying that I learned the truth: he and Isabel had been together for months.

And Isabel hadn’t killed herself over me.

She had discovered that her power was gone. She’d panicked and taken the coward’s way out.

At the thought, my whole body trembled.

The phantom pain of the fall shot through me all over again.

This time, I would just watch them burn.

“Don’t worry, Mr. Romano. Your son isn’t the man I want to marry, either.”

I glanced at Dante, then gave a polite nod to the room and turned to leave.

I had just reached the door when I heard my mother’s voice behind me.

“I’m so sorry. Our eldest has always been… a bit peculiar. She doesn’t have much of an eye for fashion. Please, pay her no mind.”

My steps faltered.

A familiar ache settled in my chest.

Though Isabel and I were born mere minutes apart, they had always favored her.

Anything I had, they made me give to her.

Later, when I discovered Isabel’s problem, I tried to tell Mom.

Mom said I was just jealous of my sister.

Dad was even more direct.

He’d always hoped Isabel, his beautiful and pliant daughter, would be their ticket into the Romanos’ elite world.

They were never on my side.

Fine. I didn’t want them, either.

I took out my phone and replied to the text I’d received three days ago.

“I’ll marry you, but I have one condition.”

Perhaps afraid I would interfere, Dante’s team released the announcement that very night: he was marrying the younger Bennett daughter.

The wedding was set for a week later—his twenty-fifth birthday.

Coincidentally, it was the same date my own fiancé had chosen.

For the next two days, he sent a car for me every day, taking me to try on wedding dresses and finalize the details of our own ceremony.

I was exhausted, but he looked at me, his expression serious.

“You are my savior, and you will be the only wife I ever have. This wedding has to be perfect. I don’t want you to feel slighted in any way.”

Looking into his eyes, my heart gave a small, unexpected flutter.

In my previous life, he had come to me, too.

At the time, I had been determined to marry Dante, so I’d steeled myself and turned him down.

Later, I heard he’d taken his own life in Europe. A sliver of guilt had haunted me ever since.

But back then, all I cared about was protecting my sister and parents from the Romanos’ potential retaliation.

This time, I would be selfish.

I would save only the people I wanted to save.

I would live only the life I wanted to live.

Three days before the wedding, he told me he was flying to Europe himself to source a one-of-a-kind diamond for me.

“Meredith, I’ll have someone pick you up tomorrow. You’re going to love this wedding dress.”

He squeezed my hand once, then got into a car and left for the airport.

The next day, when I saw the wedding dress, I froze.

The boutique manager told me he’d flown in a hundred designers and had them work around the clock to finish it.

It was called Nightfall.

When I put it on, the woman in the mirror was a stranger to me.

Even my own face, the one everyone seemed to find so disagreeable, looked… beautiful.

“Dante, I want the one she’s wearing.”

A familiar voice sounded from the doorway.

I turned and met Dante’s gaze.

He looked stunned for a moment, then his lips curled into a mocking smile.

“Meredith, what are you doing here? Did you know I was bringing Isabel here to try on dresses? Did you follow us just to cause a scene?”

Isabel turned and threw herself into Mom’s arms, her eyes instantly welling with tears.

“Mom, is my sister… upset because we didn’t invite her?”

My parents immediately rounded on me.

“You crazy girl. You disappear for days, and this is where you turn up? Just to humiliate your sister? Take that dress off right now and go home. Must you cause a scene everywhere you go?”
