The Lawyer’s Lie Chapter 16

The Lawyer’s Lie Chapter 16

At the same time, the scene shifted to Julian’s law firm.

He had shut himself inside his office, using every connection he had to search for Clara’s whereabouts again

and again.

Two buttons at his collar were undone, and his hair was no longer perfectly neat the way it usually was. A

few strands had fallen over his forehead.

He lifted a hand and pressed it to his brow, but the crease between his eyebrows remained.

She had not taken a single thing from the apartment.

That was how he comforted himself. She was only angry for the moment, throwing a fit for the moment, refusing to see him for the moment.

But he also knew she might not have left everything behind after all. The security footage showed that she

had left her wedding ring there.

The ring that had appeared on Wendy’s hospital bed before had only been a fake.

Julian propped his head in his hands. The refined, distant elegance that usually marked his features was gone, leaving only a heavy darkness in his eyes.

Then the door opened, and his assistant walked in with a grave expression.

“Mr. Grant, we found Clara.”

Julian shot to his feet. “Where is she?”

His assistant looked at him and fell silent for a few seconds.

“She’s at the Blackwood Grand Hotel tonight for her engagement party.”

All color drained from Julian’s face.

The ballroom glittered with lights and beautifully dressed guests.

Clara stood among the crowd in a champagne satin gown.

Asher stood beside her in a tailored charcoal suit with a champagne tie that matched her dress, bold and

unapologetically striking.

They held wineglasses as they moved through the guests.

“Congratulations! So when’s the wedding?”

“You two look perfect together. An absolute match made in heaven!”

“Clara went through so much before. Now that Mr. Blackwood is looking out for her, no one will dare bully

her again.”

Clara smiled and responded to them one by one.

Asher lowered his head and asked softly, “Tired?”

She shook her head. He smiled and slipped an arm around her waist.

Just then, the ballroom doors were shoved open.

Everyone turned.

Julian stood in the doorway.

He wore a black overcoat. There was not a trace of color in his face, but his eyes were frighteningly red, as if

he were holding back a raging fire.
