My Made‑Up Werewolf Mate Sent Me Gifts Chapter 10

My Made‑Up Werewolf Mate Sent Me Gifts Chapter 10: Everything Sent Through the Fire

I did not walk through that door.

At least, not the way Logan expected.

I reached my hand into the door.

Only my hand.

On Logan’s side, my hand became solid.

I grabbed his wrist.

Then I pulled myself through.

No.

Not pulled.

Burned.

My entire soul in The Pale began to burn, like the fire Logan had used to send gifts to me.

I turned myself into an offering sent through flame.

Only this time, what burned was not a gift.

It was me.

When I passed through the door, the alpha rogue of the Darkmoon remnants was lunging toward Logan.

I stretched out my hand and caught that rogue by the throat from thin air.

My fingers were real.

My body was being rebuilt bit by bit from the flames.

Bone.

Flesh.

Blood.

Fur.

The outline of a giant silver wolf formed around me.

I was being reborn in wolf form.

My first breath in the real world tasted of blood.

With one claw, I tore the rogue alpha apart.

The remaining rogues froze for one second, then turned and ran.

The pack warriors chased them down.

I turned and looked at Logan.

He knelt on the ground, nearly drained.

His face was pale as moonlight.

“Logan!”

I ran to him and held him.

He smiled.

He cried.

“You came.”

“I came,” I said. “You’re not allowed to die. Do you hear me? You are not allowed to die.”

I opened my own wrist.

My new, living wrist.

I let my blood drip into his wound.

A True Mate’s blood had healing power.

At least, that was what the legend said.

His wound began to close.

Color slowly returned to his face.

A pack elder walked over and spoke in the ancient tongue.

Only later did I learn what those words meant.

“Luna has returned. Alpha will live.”

Logan survived.

He did not lose his Alpha power either.

Because before his life was fully exhausted, I replenished it.

Three days later, I woke in Logan’s territory.

He lay beside me, one hand gripping mine tightly, as if even in sleep he refused to let go.

I looked at him.

His lashes were long.

When he slept, the corners of his mouth lifted slightly, making him look like a big boy.

I thought of the day he cried and said, “Sweetie, I miss you so much.”

I thought of him burning the coat, the lipstick, and the hearing aid.

I thought of how wronged he looked in the dream when he asked, “Do you dislike me now?”

This silly idiot.

I gently kissed his forehead.

His lashes trembled.

Then he opened his eyes.

The second he saw me, his eyes reddened again.

“Sweetie.”

“Yeah.”

“You’re alive.”

“Yeah.”

“I’m alive.”

“Yeah.”

He pulled me into his arms and held me very tightly.

“Don’t die again,” he said.

“You too,” I said.

Outside the window, the moon had not yet set.

The howls of the pack echoed through the valley.

From Logan, I learned one last thing.

In The Pale, Nonno had left me a letter.

Logan received it in the real world.

Using some rule of The Pale, Nonno had “burned” the letter back.

There was only one line written on it.

[Vee, Grandpa’s hearing aid was bought by your mate. Don’t refuse it this time. Accept it properly.]

I cried and laughed at the same time.

I folded the letter carefully and placed it under my pillow.

Logan asked what was wrong.

I said, “Nothing. My grandfather said you’re a good son-in-law.”

Logan froze.

Then he smiled foolishly.

“Of course,” he said. “I burned Grandpa the best hearing aid.”

I swatted his arm.

“Don’t burn things again. It’s a waste of money.”

“Then what do I do when I miss you?”

“You don’t need to miss me now,” I said. “I’m right here.”

He pulled me back into his arms.

The last silver ray of moonlight fell over us like a blessing.

I knew that from this day on, I was no longer a wandering soul in The Pale.

I was no longer a lonely woman who made up a mate.

I was Vivian Greyback.

Logan Blackwood’s True Mate.

The Luna of the northern pack.

And the mate I had made up from thin air had never been made up at all.

He had always been there.

Everything he sent me through the fire was his heart.
