IT’S MY PRIVATE TIME, CALL 911- My Husband Blunted My 99 SOS Calls as an On-the-Job Injury Chapter 07

It had been a year since I came to River City.

Local fishermen had pulled me from the freezing water.

Their fishing village belonged to the Graham Group. The locals told me to hold onto my second chance. They begged me never to do something like that again.

I took an entry-level job at the Graham Group. Every day, I went to work and headed home quietly.

Life was simple, but peaceful. I didn’t have to walk on eggshells anymore, or wait around for someone to come home, or sit alone in an empty house late at night.

Everything changed at a corporate banquet.

As a junior staff member, I was assigned to help with setup and serve drinks.

Midway through the event, chaos broke out. A little girl collapsed to the floor, her lips turning blue. While everyone else panicked, I rushed over, dropped to my knees, and started CPR. Muscle memory from an old first-aid class took over.

Minutes later, the girl coughed and burst into tears. The crowd parted, and a tall man walked over quickly. He knelt to check on the child, then looked up at me.

“You saved her. Thank you.”

I just shook my head, murmuring that it was nothing, before slipping back into the crowd.

I soon learned he was Arthur Graham, the heir of the Graham Group.

He transferred me to be his personal assistant. News spread fast, and countless curious, envious eyes turned my way.

Arthur was a different breed. When I did a good job, he’d just give a brief nod. “Well done.” If I made mistakes, he would only tell me to improve next time.

I climbed the ranks step by step, from assistant to department supervisor, and finally to project manager.

People said I was lucky, but I knew it was all the experience I had gained over six long years at my old job.

One day, Arthur invited me to dinner. The restaurant was quiet and cozy. He poured a glass of red wine for me.

“Rachel, you have a real gift. I’m starting a new design firm, and I want you as my partner. Are you in?”

I sat there, stunned. A sudden warmth bloomed in my chest. “I’d love to.”

He pulled a small potted orchid from beneath the table and slid it toward me. The delicate white blooms were breathtaking.

“This flower reminds me of you.” He paused, his gaze locking onto mine. “I’d like us to be more than just partners, Rachel. Will you give us a chance?”

I sat there, dumbfounded.

Just then, a familiar voice rang out from behind me.

“Rachel!”
