My Ex Is My Boss and He Wants Me Back Chapter 14

My Ex Is My Boss and He Wants Me Back Chapter 14

The first app they opened, as expected, was WhatsApp.

The man I had coffee with was actually Daniel Wright, a business partner at a headhunting firm. That day, he had been there to recruit me for a director position at a multinational company.

Because of a confidentiality agreement, his contact name was simply “Mr. Wright.”

The chat history was spotless. There were only a few voice calls from that week, each under a minute.

“Where is it?” Margaret kept scrolling, unwilling to give up. “She must’ve deleted it. This woman is cunning, I tell you!”

Brian frowned and opened the payment records.

“One hundred dollars… one hundred dollars…” He mumbled under his breath, searching for proof that I’d

funneled money to someone else.

But the ledger on the screen made his face drain of color the longer he stared.

Mortgage payment this month: $8,500.

HOA fees: $380.

Medical expenses paid for Brian’s mother: $2,000.

Internet service: $1,200, annual plan.

Line after line of expenses, all deducted from my account.

And the hundred dollars he had given me sat alone under today’s income, like a ridiculous joke.

Brian’s fingers began to tremble as he pointed at the screen. “This… what is this?”

I folded my arms and leaned against the wall, watching him coldly. “What, can’t read? That’s the mortgage.”

“Your three thousand barely covers your mom’s supplements. You thought the house paid for itself?”

Margaret couldn’t make sense of the numbers, but when she saw her son’s expression, she immediately started yelling, “Brian, don’t believe her! This has to be fake. Apps can fabricate anything now.”

“She only makes four thousand a month. Where would she get money to pay over eight thousand in mortgage? She must be selling…”

“Mom!” Brian cut her off, his face flushing red.

He turned and stared at me. “Where did all this money come from?”

“Didn’t you say you were just an office clerk at your company?”

“An office clerk can afford this kind of mortgage? Elowen, tell me the truth. Is this money clean or not?”

I looked at him, and something inside me went completely cold.

In his eyes, being capable meant being dirty.

“Brian, does it really hurt your pride that much to admit your wife is better than you, that she earns more than

you?”

I walked over, grabbed my phone back from the table.

“If you think I’m dirty, then there’s no point continuing this marriage.”

“Let’s get a divorce.”

The room fell silent.

A moment later, Margaret burst out laughing, pointing straight at my face, “Divorce? Hahaha, did you hear

that, Brian? She wants a divorce!”

“Once you’re divorced, what are you? Secondhand goods. Used up.”

“This house is in my son’s name. After the divorce, you leave with nothing. Pack your bags and get out!”

Brian seemed used to my backing down. He straightened his collar and put on that superior air again.

“Elowen, don’t try to scare me with divorce. You think anyone else would want you?”

“And the down payment on this house came from my family. Even if your name is on the deed, that’s

premarital property. Don’t dream of taking a cent.”

I looked at the shameless mother and son and was honestly speechless.

When we bought the house, the down payment had indeed been theirs, about twenty thousand.

But the million-plus in loans and renovations afterward had all been paid by me.

Since they wanted to settle accounts, I would settle them properly.

“Fine. I won’t take the house.” I nodded and turned toward the bedroom. “But everything I bought, I’m taking

with me.”

I pulled out a suitcase and began packing.

A few sets of clothes, some skincare products, and a laptop.

Everything that belonged to me fit into a single case.

Brian and Margaret thought I was putting on a show. They stood at the bedroom door, watching as if it were

entertainment.

“Who are you fooling? Once you walk out that door, where are you going to sleep tonight? Margaret sneered.

spitting grape skins onto the floor.

Brian leaned against the doorframe and snorted, “Let her go. If she walks out that door today, she can cry

and beg all she wants-I won’t ever let her back in!”
