The Don’s Dead Bride Chapter 06

The Don’s Dead Bride Chapter 06

The gala was full of designer gowns and expensive watches.

I walked in on Matteo’s arm, and the whole room turned to look.

A wine-red couture gown hugged every curve I had.

The back was cut deep, showing off pale skin.

Except for my right shoulder—there was a bright red spider lily tattooed there.

It covered the scar from the fire.

“Who’s that? Costa’s mistress?”

“Gorgeous. Never seen her before.”

Whispers rippled through the crowd.

I held my head high and walked straight to the center of the ballroom.

Luca stood surrounded by his men, a glass of whiskey in his hand.

Five years had changed him.

The once-arrogant don now had a gaunt face and sunken eyes that radiated a cold, untouchable fury.

Even his tailored suit hung loose on him.

Isabella stood beside him, still playing the fragile victim.

But the fine lines around her eyes gave away the years.

“Luca. Long time.”

Matteo stopped in front of him, his voice dripping with challenge.

Luca turned. His gaze landed on Matteo—cold as ice.

But when his eyes found me—

He froze.

The glass slipped from his hand and shattered on the marble floor.

Liquor splashed his pants, but he didn’t notice.

He was staring at my face.

His pupils contracted like he’d seen a ghost.

“E…Elena?”

He reached out with a shaking hand, his voice raw.

I stepped back, my face a mask of confusion and coldness.

“Sorry, Don. You’ve got me mixed up with somebody else.”

I gripped Matteo’s arm tighter and forced a distant smile.

“I’m Alessia. Matteo’s fiancée.”

Luca’s hand hung in the air.

The light in his eyes went out, replaced by something even darker.

“No… that’s not possible…”

He muttered to himself, his gaze devouring my features.

Isabella saw me too.

Her face went white. Like she’d seen death itself.

“E…Elena Rossi?!”

She shrieked, pointing at me, her whole body trembling.

“You’re dead! Are you a ghost?!”

I raised an eyebrow and looked at her coldly.

“M’àam, watch your mouth. I told you. I’m Alessia.”

“Keep running your mouth about me, and my lawyer will slap you with a defamation suit.”

Matteo put his arm around my waist, staking his claim.

“Control your woman, Romano. Don’t let her bark at people like a crazy dog.”

Luca finally pulled himself together.

He ignored Isabella’s hysterics entirely. His focus was completely on me.

The look in his eyes was pure obsession.

“Alessia?”

He repeated the name, a strange smile curling his lips.

“Fine. Good.”

“Whoever you are—you’re not getting away from me again.”
