The Senator’s Daughter Is Now the CEO They Need Chapter 20

Before she finished speaking, Olivia’s voice came from the other end of the line.

“Mom, we’re on a family vacation. Who are you calling?”

My mother hurriedly said, “Take care of yourself,” and hung up.

Later, the Davises took Olivia to England to handle her enrollment at Oxford.

The night they left, I moved into an apartment Isabella kept in the city.

It was near the LSAT testing center and perfectly quiet.

Only after the exam was over did I drag my suitcase back to the Davis house.

At dinner, my mother placed a piece of roasted salmon on my plate, her tone one of genuine concern.

“Chloe, why did you move out before the exam? You didn’t even let the driver take you, and you didn’t call home once. You’re impossible…”

She made it sound as if she’d been desperately trying to reach me.

But my phone had been silent for days. No one had contacted me.

“You were too noisy,” I said.

My father frowned.

“What does that have to do with not staying home? It’s not like you were taking the exam here.”

I lifted my head and looked at him.

“In the final stages of prep, absolute quiet is critical. I had to review everything one last time. You’ve never been through it, so it’s understandable that you don’t get it.”

My words silenced the entire table.

The Davises had always preferred to decorate their resumes with degrees from overseas.

Julian and Olivia had both gone that route.

But they had probably forgotten that not every exam was as easy as they seemed to think.

Julian gave a cold laugh.

“I think her scores were just so bad she was too ashamed to face anyone. She hid until the exam was over and then came crawling back.”

“Julian,” my father said in a low voice. “That’s enough.”

I lowered my head and continued eating.

I had no intention of explaining myself further.

The bet had already been made.

When the results came out, they would know.
