The Video Call from Hell Chapter 06

The Video Call from Hell Chapter 06

Ethan walked into the house.

His mother rushed toward him, beating her chest in hysterics.

“Ethan, that bitch Evelyn actually sold the company and the house!”

“How could she do that? Those belonged to the Bradford family. They were supposed to be left to my

grandson!”

Her face twisted with fury.

“Tell me where she is.”

“I’ll make her give back every penny, or I’ll kill her myself!”

Ethan choked out, “Mom, Evelyn has stomach cancer. She’s dying.”

Mrs. Bradford Sr., who had just said she wanted to kill Evelyn, froze on the spot.

Hayden, who had been sitting on the floor playing with a Transformer toy, burst into tears when he heard

that.

He ran over and hugged Ethan’s leg.

“Mommy. Where’s Mommy? I want Mommy!”

Mrs. Bradford Sr.’s face turned deathly pale, her voice filled with disbelief.

“How is that possible? She just took our company and our house. How could she suddenly be dying?”

“Is she putting on an act? Is she trying to make you feel sorry for her so you’ll take her back?”

“She was perfectly fine. She was always perfectly…”

Her voice suddenly stopped.

She remembered how, when Evelyn had first taken over the company, she had forced herself through

business dinner after business dinner, drinking hard just to earn everyone’s respect.

She remembered how Evelyn would forget to eat whenever she got busy, and the longest stretch had been

three full days without a meal.

She remembered the times Evelyn had fainted from stomach pain and been rushed to the hospital, only to

leave after a few bags of IV fluids and go right back to work.

Was that how her stomach cancer had started?

Mrs. Bradford Sr. had never liked Evelyn.

She had always believed Evelyn had ruined Ethan and Serena’s relationship.

But that did not mean she wanted Evelyn dead.

Ethan and his mother fell into a dead silence.

The only sound in the entire mansion was Hayden’s heartbroken crying.

The mansion had been sold.

Ethan had no choice but to take his mother and son back to the home he shared with Serena.

After Serena learned about Evelyn’s illness, she held a photo of herself and Evelyn and cried as if her heart were breaking, nearly passing out.

“Evelyn, come back. I’ll give Ethan back to you.”

“I’ll take the baby and leave. Please, just come back.”

The wound on her forehead began to bleed again because she was so emotional.

Ethan pulled her into his arms, his heart aching for her.

She clutched his arm and begged, “Ethan, we’re the ones who hurt Evelyn.”

“You have to find her. You have to save her.”

Ethan’s eyes were bloodshot.

“I will. I’ll find her.”

The next day, the truth that Ethan had staged his own death and built a second family with Serena was

exposed.

Clients who had been working with Serena’s studio canceled their contracts one after another, causing major

losses.

In less than half a month, her studio declared bankruptcy under a mountain of debt.

Serena was strangely calm.

She believed it was the punishment she deserved.

To pay off the debt, they sold their home.

They moved into the same place Ethan would be living in five years.

From then on, they became ordinary people.

Without power or influence, finding Evelyn was almost impossible for Ethan.

But he did not give up.

He went to Evelyn’s hometown and contacted every friend she had.

He found nothing.

He worked at a bar while asking customers if they had any news about Evelyn.

Several times, he was cheated out of money.

The scams were painfully obvious, but he refused to let go of even the smallest chance of finding Evelyn.

Ethan’s mother took a job washing dishes.

In the end, her body could not take it, and she collapsed.

It was another crushing weight on a family already buckling.

As for the child Ethan had with Serena, he had been undernourished from birth and had always been frail and

sickly.

He died during a severe fever.

Serena held the child’s remains and cried as if her heart had been torn out.

She believed it was because she had done too many things to hurt Evelyn.

Retribution had fallen on her child instead.

Her mind completely broke after that, and she was never normal again.

Every day, she held a baby doll and wandered outside looking for Evelyn.

Whenever she saw a woman with a similar figure, she would rush over, drop to her knees, and slam her

forehead against the ground as she begged forgiveness.

She kept saying, “I’m sorry.”

Grandma was sick, and Serena had lost her mind.

Young as he was, Hayden had no choice but to help his father hold the family together.

During the day, he acted like a mature little adult.

But at night, he would hide under his blanket, look at photos of himself with his mother, and cry in secret.

He missed his mother.

He missed curling up in her arms while she read him stories.

He missed the mountains they had climbed as a family of three and the beaches they had visited together.

But those beautiful days would never come back.

The thirty-two-year-old Ethan was also doing everything he could to find Evelyn.

He left at sunrise and came home after dark, so much so that he failed to notice his mother lying in bed,

gravely ill.

He failed to notice his son growing thin as a skeleton.

He failed to notice his wife losing herself completely to madness.

At last, he found the private care facility where Evelyn was staying.

Meanwhile, in the other timeline, the Ethan who had been twenty-seven also learned Evelyn’s whereabouts

five years later from a coworker at his food-delivery job.

Filled with joy, both of them rushed toward the private care facility at the same time.

At the entrance, they saw each other.
