That night, inside a private Hart family aquarium that had not yet opened to the public, cold white lights reflected off the enormous glass dome.

In the deep tank below, dark shapes drifted back and forth beneath the surface.

When Ethan had Adrian and Sienna dragged in, both of them were deathly pale.

Their hands were not tied.

The doors were open.

But Hart family bodyguards stood all around them, which meant there was nowhere for them to run.

The moment Sienna saw me, she dropped to her knees and burst into tears.

“Evelyn, I was wrong.”

“I only did it because I loved Adrian too much. I never really meant to hurt you.”

“Please let me go. I have a heart condition. I can’t handle this kind of shock.”

I sat in my wheelchair with a thin blanket over my legs, hiding the wounds underneath.

“Now you remember you’re sick?”

“When you pushed me into the water, you seemed to be laughing just fine.”

Sienna’s face turned paper-white.

Adrian knelt too.

“Evie, if you want someone to punish, punish me.”

“Don’t hurt Sienna.”

I looked at him and finally could not help laughing.

“You’re still protecting her. Even now.”

Adrian froze.

Sienna, however, instinctively hid behind him.

Ethan waved a hand.

The bodyguards brought them both to the edge of the tank.

A single life ring floated in the center of the tank.

Ethan’s voice was calm and cold.

“That night, you made Evie beg for help from inside the tank.”

“Tonight, I’ll give you a choice too.”

“There’s only one life ring.”

“Whoever gets it comes out.”

Adrian’s pupils shrank.

“Ethan Hart, this is illegal!”

Ethan lowered his gaze and adjusted his cuff.

“Now you care about the law?”

“They’re just a few fish, aren’t they?”

“Didn’t you say playing along wouldn’t kill you?”

The moment those words landed, all color drained from Adrian’s face.

Sienna screamed.

“I don’t want to go in!”

“Adrian, save me!”

Adrian looked at her.

There was no love in his eyes anymore, only fear.

The next second, the bodyguards used daggers to make several shallow cuts on them, then shoved them onto the shallow platform at the edge of the tank.

The water only reached their knees, but blood from their wounds trickled down their legs and into the tank.

In the distance, the fish were already stirred up by the lights, the noise, and the smell of blood.

Dark shadows rolled beneath the surface, gathering toward them.

Sienna suddenly shoved Adrian.

“Go get the life ring!”

“You said you loved me, didn’t you?”

Adrian grabbed her hair in return.

“If it weren’t for you, how would I have ended up like this?”

The two of them began tearing at each other on the shallow platform.

They shoved, cursed, and fought, each desperate to make the other fall in first.

I watched in silence.

At the opening gala, they had watched me from the edge of the tank the same way.

The only difference was that they had been laughing then.

Now it was their turn to cry.
