He Asked Me To Be His Mistress So I Left Him For Good Chapter 02

By the time I reached the bus stop, I was soaked from head to toe. Everyone looked at me as if I were an idiot.

And honestly, I was one. Even now, all I could think about was how good Elliot had once been to me.

The truth about my mother being the other woman came out when I was eighteen.

She had driven his wife and unborn child to their deaths, thinking she could take the wife’s place. But after his wife and baby died, that man finally came to his senses and cut my mother off completely.

Even when my mother tried to use me as leverage against him, he did not care.

In the end, my mother ended up giving birth to me anyway.

The reason everything blew up eighteen years later was that the man posted a public confession online.

While people condemned him, they also dug up my mother’s past.

After exposing my mother, they dragged me into it too.

Even after my mother was harassed online until she jumped to her death, the women who had been hurt by affairs still refused to let me go.

It happened both on and off campus.

The students at school were a little milder. At most, they pointed at me to my face and said homewreckers deserved to die.

The younger women and middle-aged women outside school were far more violent. Every day, a group of them waited outside the school gates to throw rotten eggs and spoiled produce at me.

They said, “A homewrecker’s daughter will grow up to be a homewrecker too.”

“Look at that slutty little homewrecker act. She’s even trashier than her mother.”

I knew my mother was guilty, and I did not think I was innocent either. So I never fought back. I simply let them use me as an outlet for their rage.

That life lasted for more than half a year. In the end, Elliot was the one who stepped forward and saved me.

“Who says the daughter of the other woman has to become the other woman too?”

He grabbed a middle-aged woman and asked, “What does your daughter do?”

The middle-aged woman said proudly, “My daughter is an accountant at a big company.”

Elliot asked again, “And what about you?”

The middle-aged woman stammered and refused to answer. Another woman answered for her, “She cooks meals for a construction crew.”

Elliot said, “See? Your daughter isn’t like you.”

After that, fewer and fewer middle-aged women came to cause trouble for me.

My life gradually returned to normal. Later, Elliot began pursuing me with everything he had.

When it rained, he held an umbrella over me. When the sun was strong, he shielded me from it.

Every night after evening study hall, he quietly walked me back to my dorm.

Sometimes, when we ate in the cafeteria, a few classmates would resentfully dump leftover soup and food onto my seat.

He would step forward then too and lecture them, “Which one of you got to choose your parents before you were born?”

The students fell silent.

Elliot went on, “Then let me ask you this. Can any of you guarantee that your parents and ancestors have always been perfectly decent people?”

One by one, the students lowered their heads in shame. I was won over by his almost unsettling sense of righteousness and his gift with words.

So I agreed to date him.

To be honest, before I met him, I had never thought about dating anyone. Because of what happened with my mother, I carried serious trauma.

He was like a beam of light, shining little by little over that shadow until it finally disappeared.

But now, as I stood in the pouring rain, I could not understand it no matter how hard I tried.

How could someone who had once been so good become like this?

Suddenly, my vision went black, and I collapsed to the ground.
