He Asked Me To Be His Mistress So I Left Him For Good Chapter 01

“Your mother was the other woman, so what does that make you?”

Elliot Ford slid the custom wedding ring onto my finger, then asked me that out of nowhere.

I stared at him in shock. “Elliot, what are you talking about?”

“That makes you the other woman too, baby.”

I had no idea what he meant, but he looked completely serious. “Why don’t you become my secret mistress?”

“We hired a new executive assistant at the company. She’s capable, she’s beautiful, and I want to marry her.”

“Then what am I supposed to be?”

A fake look of apology spread across his face. “Your mother knew he was married and still chose to be the other woman back then. Why can’t you do the same?”

It took me a long time before I finally said, “My mother is my mother, and I am me. I won’t be anyone’s mistress.”

“Oh, really?”

He gave a mocking laugh. “Then we’re done.”

“Fine. Then we’re done.” I had sworn long ago that I would never be anyone’s other woman for as long as I lived.

But Elliot did not know that.

He gently stroked my head. “Silly girl, stop trying to spite me. How are you supposed to survive without me?”

“Your mother was harassed online until it drove her to suicide, and your father never acknowledged you. As long as you stay with me, no one will dare mock you.”

I let out a quiet laugh. Who said staying with him was the only way to stop people from laughing at me?

I still had an aunt. Her business had become enormous overseas, giving her enough power there to make almost anything happen.

Last week, she had gotten in touch with me and asked if I was willing to move overseas with her.

I had refused because I could not bear to leave Elliot.

But now…

I sent my aunt a message.

Me: [Aunt, I’ve made up my mind. I’ll go with you.]

My aunt replied instantly: [That’s wonderful. In three days, I’ll send a private jet back home to pick you up.]

It was supposed to be good news, but tears still slipped down my face before I could stop them.

My chest hurt so badly, as if a venomous bug had bitten me there.

I had planned to tell Elliot about my aunt as a surprise.

Now, it seemed there was no need.

When Elliot saw me crying, he assumed I really could not bear to break up with him. He reached over and wiped my tears away. “Look at you. You cry the second I mention breaking up. If I really left you one day, wouldn’t you fall apart and try to kill yourself?”

“Trying to spite me won’t end well for you. Only if you keep behaving and listen to me will you avoid becoming helpless and alone again.”

I sniffed and said nothing.

Elliot thought he had talked me around. He started the engine, then suddenly paused before pulling out.

“Oh, right. Starting today, if you ride in my car, you sit in the back. The new girl said that from now on, my passenger seat is only for her. I promised her, and I can’t go back on my word.”

He turned to look at me. “You know I’ve always been a man of my word. I promised to take care of you for the rest of your life, so even if I marry someone else, I’ll still take care of you.”

At that point, he smiled. “You still don’t know, do you? In three days, I’m taking her to City Hall to make it official. I had to wear her down for ages before she finally agreed, so I can’t risk making her mad again. She isn’t as easy to coax as you are. She said she’s a red rose, and anyone who loves the flower has to accept its thorns.”

Elliot was lost in the sweetness of his love for her, while I felt as if I had truly been pierced by a rose thorn. A sharp pain suddenly shot through my palm.

I looked down and realized that when I had unbuckled my seat belt, my hand had brushed against an earring. Its pointed tip had stabbed me.

As soon as I opened my palm, blood began to spill out.

Elliot saw it too. He said anxiously, “How could you be so careless?”

I thought he was worried about me, and I was about to say it was fine. This little pain was nothing compared to the pain in my heart.

But in the next second, Elliot’s words sent me crashing to rock bottom all over again.

“That’s her earring. She’s a clean freak. If she finds out her favorite earring was stained by your blood, she’ll be angry.”

So in his eyes, even my blood was dirty.

The pain made my head spin. I stared at him blankly for a long while before he finally seemed to feel a trace of guilt under my gaze.

He lowered his head and said, “Forget it this time. I’ll cover it up for you. Don’t touch her things again.”

Then I watched him take out an alcohol wipe and carefully clean the earring.

My palm was still bleeding. I could faintly feel the blood running down onto my leg, but I sat there numb, like a fool, unable to speak or do anything about the wound.

I just stayed frozen in my seat.

After he finished wiping the earring clean, he wrapped it in a fresh tissue and carefully placed it inside the glove compartment. Only then did he turn back to me.

“Why are you still sitting there? Didn’t you hear me tell you to move to the back?”

At last, I came back to myself a little.

“No need. I’ll call an Uber myself.”

“That works,” Elliot said. “There’s a company banquet tonight anyway. I need to go with her to pick out a gown, so you can head back on your own.”

With that, he made me get out, floored the gas, and sped past me.

He did not care that it was pouring outside.

He did not even give me an umbrella.
