Warned My Past Self on a Livestream, Canceling My 5-Year Marriage Before It Began Chapter 09

His voice trembled.

“Five years ago today, I proposed to you. Do you remember?”

I hung up immediately.

Then I blocked the number.

Of course I remembered.

But remembering didn’t mean I still cared.

Six months later, my studio had expanded again.

Dad had turned a vacant section of the rooftop into a small flower garden. Every day he happily watered plants, trimmed branches, and fussed over his roses.

After another successful project celebration, Julian finally confessed his feelings.

That night, when I got home, Dad was loosening the soil around the rose bushes.

I crouched beside him and helped.

After a while, he stopped working and spoke softly.

“Julian’s a good man.”

The small gardening trowel in my hand paused.

Dad smiled.

He didn’t say anything else.

Neither did I.

Another Midsummer Night arrived a year later.

I stood in our newly renovated apartment, watching Julian struggle in the kitchen.

The steaks for dinner were supposed to be neatly sliced.

Instead, they looked like they’d survived a small disaster.

Dad sat in the living room, loudly issuing instructions from the couch.

The two of them were currently arguing over plating.

Neither was willing to admit defeat.

Leaning against the doorway, I watched them with a smile.

Then the doorbell rang.

I walked over and opened the door.

No one was there.

Only a brown paper bag resting quietly on the welcome mat.

I bent down and picked it up.

Inside was a flower crown.

A tiny star charm hung from one side.

For a long moment, I simply stared at it.

“Who is it?” Julian called from the kitchen.

I looked down at the flower crown.

Then I closed the bag.

“Nobody. Probably delivered to the wrong apartment.”

My voice remained calm.

I placed the flower crown back inside the bag and set it on the top shelf of the shoe cabinet outside

the door.

Later, Jade stopped by my office with the latest industry gossip.

Apparently, Caleb had stepped down from all management positions within Harrington Group due

to what was officially described as “health reasons.”

Rumors were spreading everywhere.

People said his mental health had seriously deteriorated.

He often talked to himself.

He constantly repeated stories and memories nobody else seemed to understand.

I knew why.

In this timeline, he was the only one carrying memories of that other world.

The only one trapped inside its regrets.

The only one left to rot with them.

After Jade finished gossiping, I sat silently for a moment before lowering my head and returning to my blueprints.

I thought about Caleb.

The Caleb who had crushed everything I’d worked for.

The Caleb who had used my father’s life to threaten me.

The Caleb who had cost me my child.

Then I remembered another Caleb.

A boy who had started liking me when he was seven years old.

A boy who had promised to protect me forever.

At some point, I stopped knowing whether those two people were truly the same person.

But it didn’t matter anymore.

That night, I stood on the balcony overlooking the glittering city skyline.

Julian walked up behind me and draped a light jacket over my shoulders.

Inside, Dad was watching television.

His hearty laughter drifted through the open balcony door.

On the rooftop above us, the roses were in full bloom.

Their faint fragrance floated through the night air.

I leaned against Julian’s shoulder and slowly closed my eyes.

The memories from that other timeline still remained.

They were a scar etched deep inside me.

But scars healed.

And this one finally had.

I was grateful to the woman I had been five years ago.

The woman who had found the courage to cut herself free from a rotten fate and rewrite her ending.

In this new world she had created…

I would live for both of us.

Freely.

Fearlessly.

And in the sunlight.
