Warned My Past Self on a Livestream, Canceling My 5-Year Marriage Before It Began Chapter 08

The woman Caleb had hated for four years.

The woman he had tormented until her death.

Had been innocent all along.

His hands tightened around the steering wheel.

The memories from that other timeline crashed through him again, carving him apart piece by

piece.

A warm midsummer night when they were seven.

Back then, he had clumsily woven a flower crown from wildflowers he’d picked by the roadside. A tiny star charm dangled from the ribbon he’d tied around it.

On the rooftop, Vivian had smiled so brightly that her eyes curved into crescents.

“I’ll protect you forever, Vivian,” he’d promised, thumping a fist against his chest with all the confidence a little boy could muster.

Then came their wedding day.

Jonathan had gripped Caleb’s hand tightly, his eyes red with emotion.

“Vivian’s never had to struggle,” he’d said. “I’m trusting you to take care of her.”

Caleb had sworn it with complete sincerity.

He would love her with everything he had.

He would never let her suffer.

She had once been the most precious person in his world.

So what had he done?

He had taken her devoted heart and ground it into the dirt for four long years.

Before long, summer arrived in this timeline as well.

julian’s team and my design studio organized a company retreat together.

Dad came too.

He sat among the younger employees, laughing as he taught them how to make flower crowns. His smile was so wide his eyes nearly disappeared.

Beside him, Julian awkwardly attempted to copy the technique, fumbling with stems and petals.

Standing a short distance away, I couldn’t help smiling at the sight.

That evening, Julian drove Dad and me home.

When we reached the apartment building, Dad conveniently remembered something upstairs and excused himself, leaving the two of us alone in the car.

Julian turned toward me.

“Your dad seemed really happy today.”

I looked at him quietly.

“He told me something. He said his biggest fear was that you’d end up facing everything alone.”

I held his gaze.

“You don’t have to worry about that anymore.”

Late that night, I stood on the balcony enjoying the cool summer breeze.

My phone rang.

An unfamiliar number.

I answered.

For several seconds, all I heard was breathing.

Then Caleb’s hoarse voice came through the line.

“Vivian…”

My expression didn’t change.

“Today’s Midsummer Night.”
