His Smokescreen Is Now the Woman He Can’t Have Chapter 21

He pulled his arm free and laid out the facts, one sentence at a time.

“Several months ago, Elara anonymously entered an international architectural design competition and won first prize. MIT offered her an exceptional full scholarship because of it. Their only condition was that she submit a transcript with a top-tier GPA.”

All the blood seemed to drain from Caleb’s body.

“So the moment the Honor Committee’s ruling came out, her transcript became official. MIT’s acceptance letter arrived immediately after.” Davies looked at him directly. “She completed all the procedures that same day and flew straight to Boston.”

The instructor paused, then added one final sentence.

“She chose this path for herself, Caleb. It was never about you.”

That sentence shattered the last of Caleb’s delusions.

All the strength seemed to drain from him. He staggered backward until his back hit the car.

“Why?”

When he spoke, his voice shook. At this point, he couldn’t tell if he was asking the instructor or the past he had so completely misunderstood.
