When the Luna Falls Asleep Chapter 08

When the Luna Falls Asleep Chapter 08

Jonathan’s POV

Page Six.

“I asked Jonathan to reject me, but he held me and cried. He refused to break our mate bond. He said he loved me and wanted to seal the bond with me. I cried too… Why did I have to get an incurable disease?”

### Page Twenty.

“Tomorrow is my engagement ceremony with Jonathan. I’m so excited and nervous. I hope everything goes perfectly!”

### Page Twenty-One.

“I fell asleep again. This time, I slept for seven days.”

### Page Thirty.

“Tomorrow is my Luna Coronation with Jonathan. I drank enough extra-strong coffee for ten people. Moon Goddess, please don’t let me fall asleep again! Please let me wear my wedding dress and become Jonathan’s mate. I love him so much.”

### Page Thirty-One.

“I slept for a month. Jonathan asked Chloe to stand in as the bride. They both apologized, and I know it was an emergency, but why does my heart hurt so much…? The Luna Coronation I’d been dreaming about was ruined because of me.”

### The final page.

“This time I slept for eight months. When I woke up, Jonathan and Chloe had a child together. Everyone had moved on. Everyone had a new life.

Maybe I’ve become a burden.

Maybe it would be better if I never woke up again.

Maybe that’s the ending everyone wants.”

Every page was stained with tear marks where the ink had run.

By the time I finished reading, tears were streaming down my face.

My knees gave out.

I collapsed onto the floor and slammed my fist against the hardwood, “I’m a bastard!”

“What the hell have I done to Allison?”

“She’s the one who’s sick. She’s the one who’s terrified. And yet she never showed me her fear. She was always the one comforting me.”

My voice broke, “And I betrayed her. I’m a goddamn bastard.”

The commotion drew Chloe into the room.

She rushed over and tried to stop me, “Jonathan, calm down…”

But the moment she saw my bloodshot eyes, her words died in her throat.

I stared at her for a long moment before my hand fell limply to my side.

Just then, the doorbell rang.

My eyes lit up instantly.

I stumbled to my feet and rushed toward the front door.

A surge of hope exploded inside me.

“Allison? Is that you?”

I yanked the door open.

“Allison, if you’ve come back, I swear I’ll never leave you again. We can start over—”

The words died the moment the door opened.

It wasn’t Allison.

It was the family portrait we had ordered.

I stared at the framed photograph.

Five smiling faces. Not one of them belonged to Allison.

The image felt unbearable.

The woman standing beside me should have been Allison.

Not Chloe.

Everything was wrong.

This wasn’t a family portrait at all.

I hurled the frame onto the floor.

Glass shattered everywhere.

Then I ripped the photograph apart, piece by piece, as if I could erase everyone in it.

“Wrong!” My roar echoed through the house, “Everything is wrong!”

Chloe screamed.

Clutching a crying Austin to her chest, she stumbled backward in terror.

I stood there, breathing heavily, my gaze locked on her.

When I finally spoke, my voice was hoarse, “We need to break our mate bond.”

Her face went white, “What?”

“We were a mistake from the beginning.”

I looked at her coldly, “It’s time everything went back to where it should have been.”

Chloe’s eyes widened in disbelief, “Jonathan, we have a fucking child together!”

Her voice shook, “And you want to break our mate bond?”

My expression remained icy, “I think I’ve finally figured it out.”

A flicker of panic crossed her face, “You were jealous of Allison, weren’t you?”

“What are you talking about?”

“I understand now how you slowly took her place.”

I took a step forward, “You became my Luna.”

“You got the job at the company she dreamed of working for.”

“You became her parents’ daughter.”

“Every single time, you acted like you were backing away.”

My jaw tightened, “But in reality, you kept pushing all of us further away from Allison.”

“You made us angry with her.”

“You made us think she was being difficult.”

“You made us believe she wanted everyone else to be miserable.”

I shook my head, “But Allison was never like that.”

“She was always the easiest person to love.”

“She never wanted to cause trouble.”

Tears quickly filled Chloe’s eyes, “I didn’t do any of that.”

Her voice trembled, “Jonathan, how can you think that about me?”

In the past, seeing her cry would have softened my heart.

This time, I felt absolutely nothing.
