When the Luna Falls Asleep Chapter 05

When the Luna Falls Asleep Chapter 05

Jonathan’s POV

I still remembered her crying and shaking her head over and over.

She had said she didn’t want to go.

She didn’t want to become a living corpse.

She just wanted to spend whatever time she had left awake with me and her parents.

The memory instantly filled me with irritation. So that was why she had been acting so obedient these past few days.

She had been planning this stunt all along.

“Enough with the act,” I said coldly, “You’re one of Allison’s hired actors, aren’t you?”

“She’s terrified of dying. There’s no way she’d volunteer for an experimental project like this.”

“Tell her to stop playing these childish games.”

Chloe spoke hesitantly from beside me, “Jonathan… maybe you should go check on her.”

She bit her lip, “If Allison made this call, maybe she just wants us to pay a little more attention to her.”

“That’s enough!”

Lauren finally exploded, “We haven’t paid enough attention to her already?”

“Today’s Austin’s baby shower. We finally had a chance to breathe for once, and she had to pull something like this.”

“Doesn’t she realize that all she wants is for everyone else to feel miserable too?”

Her voice trembled with frustration.

“We’ve spent years living around her condition. We’ve all had to watch what we say and do. But we have lives too.”

“Are we supposed to spend the rest of our lives revolving around a patient?”

“If this is real, then let her join the study! Maybe she’ll finally stop dragging all of us down.”

A cold laugh escaped me.

Then I spoke into the phone.

“Did you hear that? Her entire family agrees.”

“You have our consent for her to participate in the trial.”

“Is that enough?”

## Allison’s POV

The line went dead.

The healer overseeing the project looked visibly uncomfortable.

“Ms. Blackwell…”

I fought back the tears threatening to fall and forced a smile. It looked worse than crying.

“My family agreed.”

I lowered my gaze to the consent forms, “Can we begin now?”

A few days earlier, I had contacted Neurovia Labs myself.

They had always been fascinated by my condition.

Cases like mine were incredibly rare, and they hoped I would participate in their research program.

The risks were enormous.

That was why I had refused before.

I hadn’t wanted to gamble my future on uncertainty.

I had wanted to spend every moment I remained awake with Jonathan and my parents.

But now… I no longer had anything to lose.

With a steady hand, I signed my name at the bottom of the consent form.

The operating table was cold beneath me.

Strangely, I felt no fear. No hesitation.

A powerful wave of exhaustion washed over me.

Familiar. Overwhelming.

My eyelids slowly closed.

Once again, I sank into the endless darkness that had haunted me for years.

But this time, I wasn’t afraid.

I accepted it peacefully.

After all, there was no one left in this world who truly cared whether I woke up.

## Jonathan’s POV

After the baby shower ended, the guests gradually left.

I drove everyone to a photography studio so we could take family portraits to commemorate Austin’s hundredth day.

Once the photos were finished, we gathered around to choose our favorites.

Suddenly, Lauren sighed heavily.

“Maybe it wasn’t right to leave Allison out today.”

She stared at one of the photos.

“No matter what, she should have been part of the family portrait.”

“When she finds out, she’s going to be hurt.”

Shane immediately tried to comfort her, “Allison has always cared about her appearance. She loves fashion. She loves dressing up. She loves taking pictures.”

His expression softened, “But look at how thin she’s become.”

“She probably wouldn’t want photos taken of herself like this. When she gets better, we’ll bring her back. We’ll take every style of portrait she wants.”

Lauren’s eyes turned red.

She smiled through the tears, “You’re right. When she gets better, we’ll come back. We’ll make up for all of it.”

Her voice grew quieter, “She’s sick. Of course she’s struggling.”

“Thinking back on it now… I shouldn’t have lost my temper with her today.”

“She’s always been so sensitive. She’s probably hiding somewhere crying right now.”

Holding Austin in her arms, Chloe looked guilty as well.

“Maybe Austin and I should move out of the packhouse for a while. I could rent a place in town.”

She lowered her head, “Allison still can’t accept Jonathan and me. I’m worried seeing us together will only upset her.”

Lauren wiped at her eyes, then she laughed softly.

“For all her temper, Allison has always been easy to make up with. She’s got the softest heart.”

“Remember her eighth birthday?”

Her smile grew nostalgic, “Your father and I promised we’d get her a Barbie cake. She talked about it for weeks.”

“But we got busy and completely forgot. In the end, all we managed to buy was a tiny cupcake. She didn’t cry. She didn’t complain.”

“Instead, she hugged us and said Mommy and Daddy worked hard.”

The smile disappeared from Lauren’s face.

Her voice cut off abruptly. Color drained from her cheeks.

“Oh no…” Her hands trembled as she fumbled for her phone.

“Today… today…”

She hurriedly checked the date.

The moment she saw the screen, something shattered in her eyes.

Her face went completely pale.

“Today…” Her voice broke.

“Today is Allison’s birthday.”
