He Gave Me a Divorce, I Gave Him Ruin Chapter 07

Ethan stood and looked at the wedding portrait on the wall.

In the photo, Amelia had just graduated from an Ivy League school. She wore a wedding dress, her smile effortless and easy.

If he was being honest, his long entanglement with Chloe had something to do with Amelia, too.

He had held on to the memory of the Amelia he knew in college for years.

Back then, he’d been an outcast from his family. Aside from the Sterling name, he had nothing. Amelia had given him his first taste of dignity, of warmth.

Later, when he was back in his family’s good graces, he married her.

But she changed.

She was no longer the carefree girl he’d known. She became meticulous, a perfectionist who followed every rule. She was more like a curator of the family’s public image than a wife.

Ethan had always known Amelia came from a family of scholars. He knew that to be a convincing “Mrs. Sterling,” she had to learn the rules of his world, to never embarrass him.

So he was disappointed, but he still needed her.

Until Chloe appeared.

She was so much like the Amelia he remembered from college. Direct, passionate, reckless.

Ethan felt it was only natural that he was drawn to her.

The first time he’d mentioned divorce, he had only said it in a fit of anger. The words had barely left his mouth before he regretted them.

When he brought it up again, it was only because he felt Amelia was becoming too controlling. He just wanted her to loosen her grip, to remember how their marriage had been in the beginning.
