He Scorned Me, Now I’m a CEO He Can’t Afford Chapter 35

Lena froze.

She couldn’t help but picture it.

Wyatt, the man who had always held himself so high, circling in his Cessna over the river that divided their two worlds.

What did he want?

To confront her for reporting Clara?

“What do you think he wants?” Hank seemed to read her mind. “He regrets it, of course. He’s finally realized he’s fallen for you. Girl, I’ve been on this earth for sixty years. I know men. They never appreciate what’s right in front of them until it’s gone for good.”

Lena couldn’t help but laugh at that.

“It’s not like that.” She shook her head, her tone lighter than she expected. “He doesn’t like me.”

“How do you know?” Hank pressed. “He always treated you differently.”

The faint smile on Lena’s lips faded.

“That’s because I was a convenient shield between him and Clara.”

“Even if it started that way,” Hank insisted, “our Lena is a catch. Sooner or later, he would have seen it. I heard Clara went to see him every day after she got out, but he wouldn’t even let her past the gate. I think he finally knows who he really cares about.”
