He Scorned Me, Now I’m a CEO He Can’t Afford Chapter 19

Only then did Wyatt realize that Caleb and Sharon had no idea where Lena had gone, or what she was doing.

She had simply cut them off.

“We couldn’t reach her for two days before we knew something was wrong,” Caleb said, his voice hoarse. “Then we found the letter in her room.”

Sharon pulled a crumpled sheet of paper from her purse and slapped it on the table.

There was only one cold, printed line.

[I have taken everything my mother left me as per the legal documents. I am starting a company across the river. I do not require your investment, and do not look for me.]

It wasn’t a letter. It was a declaration.

Caleb’s face was livid.

“I was so angry I smashed everything in her room.” He was breathing hard. “Do you know about that award? I was going to use her title to attract investors. And then she—”

Then she had taken the prize money and her inheritance and left. On her own.

Wyatt’s heart sank.

He finally understood. Lena hadn’t left in a fit of pique.

She had planned this all along.

“It gets worse,” Sharon said shrilly. “That night, someone posted an anonymous exposé online! They claimed to be an old housekeeper from our ranch and said Lena only hid who she was because I was suppressing her all these years!”

Before she could finish, Caleb slammed his fist on the table.

“Now the reporters are at the gate! People are publicly questioning my membership in the Texas Cowboys Club! She has completely ruined me!”
