On the night of the Little New Year,
After another round of breathless passion,
Theo leaned against the headboard, gently twirling a strand of my hair around his finger.
He wound it around his finger, let it go, wound it again.
He said his friends wanted to meet me.
I was so tired I could barely keep my eyes open.
“But your friends have already met me before.”
Theo said seriously, “This time is different.”

Theo’s friends were all really nice people.
It’s just that tonight, a few of them kept sneaking glances at me, studying me like I was some kind of new discovery.
Halfway through the night, one of his friends pulled him aside and asked, confused,
“Theo, didn’t you say you were bringing your new wife tonight?”
Theo smiled and flicked ash off his cigarette. “Yeah.”
“Then why did you bring Mia? Isn’t she just a model signed to your company?”

Theo didn’t answer.

His friend froze for a few seconds, then suddenly exploded.

“Holy shit!”

“Theo, when did you lock down your subordinate?!”

Theo glanced at him calmly.

“Mia was never just a model.”

“She’s the woman I intended to marry from the very first day I met her.”
