The Comments Begged Me to Believe He Loved Me, His Actions Had Already Convinced Me Otherwise Chapter 04

Something dark settled behind Silas’s eyes. He grabbed my shoulders — fingers digging in hard enough to bruise — and forced me back, step by step.

“What the hell did you do, Elena?”

“There are dozens of paintings in that studio. Every single one of them is you. So why would you destroy the one painting I made for someone else — just to humiliate Chloe?”

“First the wrong brushes, now this. You’re suffocating me, Elena.”

My hands went still. I looked him straight in the face.

“Is that really what you think of me? Too sensitive. Too fragile. Too petty.”

Silas’s jaw clenched. Something flickered across his face — there and gone — and he took a sharp step back. Putting distance between us.

His gaze dropped to the medicine box on the counter. He hesitated — then took a step toward it.

[Even in the middle of a fight, he can’t stop thinking about the fact that she’s still BLEEDING. I am not okay.]

[His voice is wrecked and you can TELL he regrets going that hard. He’s about to crack — girl, just HUG HIM. Meet him halfway for once!!]

But I didn’t see it that way. And I was done trying to.

I zipped the bag shut and stood, pulling the suitcase upright. “Silas, I’m done. We’re over.”

The room went airless and silent.

Silas’s whole body locked up. He turned slowly. “…What did you just say?”

Something bright and quick flashed through Chloe’s eyes before she slipped behind him. Her shoulders shook with a small, timid sob.

“Was it too much — me staying over? Did I upset her? I’ll leave right now, I won’t be in the way, I’m so sorry…”

“Hey — it’s not about you. Stay. You’re fine.” His hand went to her hair without thinking — gentle, automatic.

Then he turned to me, and every trace of warmth shut off.

“You know I don’t play games, Elena. And I hate it when people throw around threats like that. Walk out that door and we’re done. For good.”

My nails bit into my palms. I nodded.

“Good. Then let it end here.”

His pupils contracted. A tremor ran through his shoulders.

“Then walk. Right now. And don’t call me crying at 2 AM because you’re lost and can’t find your way home.”

[THE ANGST IS KILLING ME — stop saying the opposite of what you mean challenge IMPOSSIBLE. He is BEGGING her to stay and she can’t even see it.]

[Exactly!! Someone like him NEEDS a partner who won’t give up on him no matter what. She’s supposed to be his light and she’s failing SPECTACULARLY.]

The weight of the comments crushed down on my chest until I couldn’t breathe.

But I still didn’t understand. How was this love? The coldness, the cruelty, the way he made me feel like nothing — how was any of that love?

I pulled up the handle, walked out, and shut the door behind me without looking back.

[I CANNOT with this FL anymore. She’s not even a martyr at this point — she’s just cruel.]

[She literally only knows how to hit him where it hurts. What’s the difference between her and some screaming stranger on the street? Can we petition to swap the FL for Chloe??]

[Seconded. Chloe is sweet, she’s considerate, and she actually GETS him. Soulmate material honestly.]

I let the comments fade out.

I dragged my suitcase down the stairs, one flight at a time, and walked out into the rain.
