My Husband’s Heir Cost Him His Own Daughter Chapter 21

With that, the nurse turned and walked away.

Carter didn’t believe it.

He ran, like a man possessed, toward the VIP maternity ward, pushing open door after door.

But Amelia was gone.

The beds were freshly made, the machines silent. There wasn’t a single trace of her left.

Panicked, he pulled out his phone and dialed the number he knew by heart, over and over again.

Each call went straight to voicemail.

He started sending messages.

Frantic questions. Desperate explanations. Pitiful pleas.

But every message was met with the cold, red exclamation point.

Message failed to send.

Email, social media—every connection he had to her had been severed.

He had no way to reach her.

Savannah, struggling to conceal her delight, walked to his side and whispered, “Carter, could she have… gone home?”

The suggestion was a lifeline.

He bolted from the hospital and raced back to the Beauchamp estate.

But all that waited for him was a house full of servants who wouldn’t meet his eye.

Amelia wasn’t there.

“Did Madam come back?” he demanded, his fingers digging into the butler’s arm.

“No, sir.”

Carter shoved the old man aside and sprinted up the stairs, throwing open the door to their bedroom.

In the corner of the dressing room stood a suitcase.

He ripped it open. Inside were the things I had packed.

A few tiny onesies I’d bought for our daughter. A couple of dresses from my favorite Boston designers.
