Genevieve froze, her eyes instantly filling with tears.

“Preston, what’s wrong? Is it because of my sister? I know you have a soft spot for her, but she brought this on herself—”

“Brought it on herself?” Preston looked up at her, his eyes blazing.

“What did she do wrong? Was it the lies you told?”

“The car accident you staged?”

“Or all those illnesses you faked?”

Genevieve’s face went white.

“Preston… what are you talking about… I don’t understand…”

“You don’t understand?” Preston stood, grabbed the stack of medical records, and threw them in her face.

“See for yourself. See how you’ve been lying for all these years.”

“See how you deceived every single one of us.”

The papers fluttered to the floor.

Genevieve glanced down, and her body began to tremble.

“The person who saved me from the fire was Laney. The person who saved me from the lake was Laney, too.”

“The person who protected me my entire childhood was always Laney.”

Preston advanced on her, step by step, his voice a low, guttural snarl.

“But you stole her credit. You stole her heroism. You stole her life.”

“No… Preston, listen to me…” Genevieve backed away, tears streaming down her face. “I truly love you and Camden. I was just so afraid of losing you…”

“So you destroyed her?” Preston grabbed her by the throat and lifted her off the ground.

Genevieve’s feet dangled in the air. She clawed desperately at his hand.

“Let… go…”

“You made her lose her child.” Preston’s voice cracked.

“You made me break her leg.”

“You made me watch as Camden poisoned her so she could never speak again.”

“You forced her to jump off a cliff.”
