Silenced Omega Chapter 09

Silenced Omega Chapter 09

Camden’s hand paused, a flicker of surprise in his eyes.

“Camden, forget it,” Genevieve said weakly. “My sister already knows she was wrong…”

“She knows she was wrong?” Camden sneered. “If she really knew, she wouldn’t be looking at me like that.”

He opened the test tube.

Just then, the door opened again.

Laney’s parents entered, followed by several doctors and nurses.

“Genevieve, what are you doing here?” Her mother hurried over. “Go back and rest.”

“I wanted to see my sister…” Genevieve’s eyes were red.

“What’s there to see?” Her father’s tone was cold, and he didn’t spare Laney a single glance.

Everyone crowded around Genevieve, fussing over her, urging her back to her own ward.

Laney lay on the bed, completely invisible.

Camden’s hand trembled slightly.

He looked at Laney.

She was staring quietly at the ceiling, her eyes so vacant it made him uneasy.

For some reason, he suddenly remembered a night a year ago.

She had curled into his arms and asked him softly,

“Camden, if one day I can’t speak anymore, will you forget the sound of my voice?”

“Camden?” Preston said. “Are you going to do it or not?”

Camden snapped back to the present.

He looked at the test tube in his hand, then at Laney.

She turned her head and stared directly at him.

Her lips moved, forming a silent message.

“I hate you.”

Camden’s chest seized.

“Camden…” Genevieve called to him again.

He closed his eyes. When he opened them, his face was a blank mask.

“Do it.”

Laney didn’t know how much time had passed when she woke to a searing pain in her throat, as if it had been scorched by fire.

The drug had worked.

She truly couldn’t speak anymore.

Genevieve sat by the bed, peeling an apple with a small silver knife.

When she saw Laney’s eyes open, she smiled.

“Awake? How does it feel to have your throat sealed with silver? You’ll never be able to speak again. Do you like it, Sis?”

Laney stared at her, her eyes bloodshot.

“Don’t look at me like that.” Genevieve took a crisp bite of the apple.

“If you want to blame someone, blame yourself. Who told you to keep trying to steal my things?”

She stood and walked to the bedside.

“Camden, Preston, Mom and Dad’s love… they were always meant to be mine. Who are you to take even a sliver of it?”

Laney raised a hand and traced words on the bedsheet.

“The car accident. You arranged it?”

Genevieve glanced down and her smile widened.

“You finally figured it out. Yes, it was me.”

“I never asked you to meet me that day. I sent that text myself from a burner phone.”

“And I hired someone to stage the crash. The impact was perfectly controlled. It looked serious, but it was never going to kill me.”

Laney’s hand trembled violently.

“Why?”

“Why?” Genevieve sneered. “Because I wanted Camden, and I wanted Preston, too.”

“But Camden was getting more and more interested in you. And the way Preston looked at you was starting to change.”

“I couldn’t just stand by and let that happen.”

She leaned down, her voice a conspiratorial whisper.

“Do you know what the funniest part is?”

“I only had to pretend to be sick a few times and say a few bad things about you, and they believed every word.”

“Camden believed I was the one who pulled him from the fire.”

“Preston believed you bullied me our entire childhood.”

“Even Mom and Dad will always be on my side.”

Laney continued to write.

“They are my family.”

“Family?” Genevieve laughed out loud. “There can only be one princess in this family.”

“Wasn’t it always obvious who Mom and Dad chose? They chose me.”

“From the first time you gave me your toy, the first time you gave me your birthday cake, they got used to it.”

“Everything you have was always meant to be given to me.”

She smoothed the silk of her hospital gown.

“But don’t worry. Once my ‘treatment’ is finished, I’ll arrange the rest of your life for you.”

“A mute, mentally unstable Omega being sent to a remote sanatorium seems perfectly reasonable, doesn’t it?”

“As for the title of Mrs. Camden Blackwood, it’s time it returned to its rightful owner.”

Laney’s gaze fell on the bedside table.

A family photo sat there.

It was taken at the Hamptons villa on her eighteenth birthday.

In the photo, she stood at the very edge, her smile stiff.

Genevieve was in the center, flanked by their parents, a princess from a fairy tale.

Laney raised her hand and pointed at the photo.

Genevieve followed her gaze, and her smile deepened.

“Oh, this? Of course Mom and Dad know everything. They helped me plan every detail.”

“Dad was in charge of falsifying the accounts to make the company look like it was on the verge of bankruptcy.”

“Mom was in charge of faking her illness to make sure you had no way out.”

“We make a great team, don’t we?”

She tilted her head, her tone light and chilling.

“Actually, you never should have survived in the first place.”

“It would have been so much better if Mom had only been carrying one baby back then, and that baby was me.”

The last light in Laney’s eyes died.

She closed them, and silent tears slid down her temples.

The silver brand had sealed her throat, and with it, her last distress pheromones.

“What are you crying for?” Genevieve smiled. “No one’s going to feel sorry for you.”

Footsteps approached from outside the door.

Camden and Preston were back.

Genevieve’s expression shifted.

She suddenly snatched the apple knife and slashed it across her own neck.

Blood gushed out.

“Ah!”

She screamed and collapsed to the floor.

The ward door slammed open.
