I Took the Money and the Quadruplets Chapter 27

He didn’t dare move a muscle, didn’t even seem to be breathing.

The sight of the powerful Liam Walker, utterly terrified by a seven-pound infant, made everyone in the room smile.

When I was wheeled out of the delivery room, he immediately handed the baby back to the nurse and rushed to my side. He took my hand, his own still trembling, and gently touched his forehead to mine.

“Ava. You did it. You worked so hard.”

I looked at his red-rimmed eyes, the tear tracks still visible on his cheeks, and shook my head.

It wasn’t hard at all.

Because in that moment, I finally had the home I had always wanted.

After the arrival of the quadruplets, our life became a whirlwind of joyful chaos.

The person who changed the most was Liam.

The man who could once move the Texas energy market with a single phone call now spent his days grappling with bottles, diapers, and incomprehensible baby gear.

When changing diapers, he’d accidentally stick the tabs to his own shirt.

When feeding them, he’d spill more milk on himself than the baby consumed.

When trying to soothe them to sleep, his off-key singing would often wake up a baby who had just drifted off, triggering a chain reaction of crying among the other three.

We had hired a team of eight professional nannies, but nothing could stop the CEO of Walker Energy from personally undertaking his fatherly duties.

My favorite part of the day was watching him, one baby in his arms, another being rocked in a bouncer at his feet, spinning in circles as he tried to manage the beautiful madness he had created.

My father took a particular delight in these scenes.

He would tap his cane on the floor and say to Liam, “This is your real work now. You made my daughter suffer. Now you can spend the rest of your life making it up to her, one diaper at a time.”
