To be honest, it smelled divine.

“Just one bite,” he said, his eyes pleading. “Just try it.”

I looked up and saw the dark circles under his eyes, the exhaustion etched into his features.

For a split second, I felt a flicker of something soft.

But then I remembered the suffocating weight of the Walker name, and I pushed the feeling down.

I stood, ready to go back inside.

He called my name.

I turned back.

“I’m not giving up,” he said.

From that day on, Liam appeared outside my house like clockwork.

I refused them all.

Julian ignored him completely.
