His Tardiness, Her New Marriage Chapter 05

His Tardiness, Her New Marriage Chapter 05

Back at the Langford estate in Greenwich, the air was thick with tension.

I went straight upstairs to my room.

The Harringtons had already received the news that “Audrey is home.”

They must have been satisfied.

The storm had passed, the wedding would proceed as planned tomorrow. That was enough.

As for whether the bride was willing, no one cared.

…

The next day, the atmosphere in the Langford villa was cold.

But on the surface, no expense was spared—the florists had come early in the morning, and the butler had polished the silverware until it gleamed.

But there wasn’t a single shred of genuine blessing in the entire house.

There was no mother helping her daughter adjust her veil with joy, no father pacing nervously in the hallway.

Everything felt like a social obligation being fulfilled.

Blake’s motorcade arrived right on time.

His suit was crisp, his expression composed.

He was surrounded by his groomsmen, the mood lively.

The Langfords greeted them at the door, their smiles polite and distant.

Mrs. Langford wore a standard socialite smile, while Taylor looked like he hadn’t slept.

Blake scanned the room. Champagne and delicate pastries were laid out in the living room. Everything looked proper and well-organized.

But he felt a certain emptiness—like a meticulously decorated stage that was missing its soul.

“Where’s Audrey? Not ready yet?” His voice was a little heavier than usual.

“She must still be getting ready upstairs?” Mrs. Langford said uncertainly, turning to a maid. “Quick, go upstairs and see if Miss Audrey is ready.”

Sloane let out a small laugh. “Don’t rush. The bride has to play a little hard to get.”

Blake’s brow tightened.

He took out his phone and opened his messages with Audrey, intending to send a text.

But the “delivered” notification never appeared.

His finger froze.

He had been so sure of himself when he left last night that he hadn’t even realized he was still on her block list.

A sense of foreboding suddenly intensified.

Sloane leaned in closer, saw his phone screen, and let out a little “Oh!”

“She still has you blocked? The ceremony is about to start…”

Before she could finish, the Langfords’ maid came rushing down the stairs. “Ma’am, Miss Audrey isn’t in her room! We’ve looked everywhere, she’s gone!”
