After I Left, His Empire Collapsed Chapter 40

After I Left, His Empire Collapsed Chapter 40

I pulled my hand away.

“Dylan. Let it go. I’m not going back with you. We’re done.”

“And I stopped loving you a long time ago.”

He shook his head. Refusing.

“Impossible. You loved me so much. You can’t just turn it off.”

I let out a short laugh.

“And you? You turned it off just fine. The moment Sadie appeared, your heart started tilting. Slowly. Then completely.”

“All those business trips. Those late meetings. You think I didn’t know? Every single one. A date with Sadie.”

His mouth opened. Nothing came out.

His gaze dropped. Landed on my wrist. The bracelet.

Hope reignited.

“Vanessa. I knew it. You still love me. You’re wearing our bracelet. The one from the flea market.”

It wasn’t his bracelet. It was Leo’s. Dylan’s was long gone. In the trash.

I opened my mouth to correct him.

Leo stepped out of the private room. Slipped his arm through mine. Faced Dylan.

“You must be Dylan Croft. The ex.”

“You’re mistaken. That bracelet is ours. Not yours.”

The past three months in Europe. Leo had been steady. Kind. He liked me. I liked him back.

When he asked, I said yes. We’d been together since.

When he found out about Dylan and the matching bracelets, jealousy flared. He dragged me to a weekend market. Bought new ones. Matching.

And now Dylan was staring at them.

He looked at Leo. At our intertwined arms. At the ease between us.

“You’re dating?”

“No. I don’t believe it. Vanessa loves me. She would never.”
