After I Left, His Empire Collapsed Chapter 24

The next week played out exactly as expected.

Three more projects. Dead. One after another.

The emails all read the same.

“We regret to inform you. Circumstances have changed.”

The office atmosphere curdled. Everyone felt the blade hanging overhead.

Mr. DeVries, whose temper was legendary, slammed his fist on the conference table.

The bang sent a coffee mug jumping.

“This is outrageous. Gangster tactics.”

“Who does this Dylan Croft think he is? Is this how business works now? Malicious interference. Bad faith.”

“Legal. Get me the paperwork. I’m suing. Unfair competition.”

The room was silent. No one dared breathe.

I smiled.

Just the calm before the storm.

Dylan. The harder you hit, the harder you’ll fall.

I handed Mr. DeVries a water bottle. Kept my voice level.

“Boss. Don’t waste your energy. Let’s gather evidence quietly.”

“As for suing.”

I paused. Met his bloodshot eyes.

“We won’t need to. He’ll blow himself up.”

He stared at me. Worry all over his face.

I didn’t elaborate.

The facts would speak for themselves.

I stepped out of the conference room. Heading back to my desk. My phone buzzed.

A number I thought I’d never see again.

Dylan.
