Reborn: Getting Back My Real Son Chapter 08

Reborn: Getting Back My Real Son Chapter 08

If not for my sister’s prophecy that Phillip would someday become a big boss, Ronald would have divorced her long ago.

After taking first place several times, Phillip became something of a local star.

A few television interviews later, he rediscovered the sense of superiority he’d enjoyed in his previous life.

He would stroll past me with his report card in hand, using every opportunity to mock me for “abandoning” such a brilliant child—what a terrible mistake I’d made, according to him.

Unfortunately for him, every time he came gloating, he always happened to run into Axel returning home from school.

At that time, Axel was in middle school and knee-deep in his rebellious phase-his temper exactly like his/ father’s. He excelled academically, but he also led a group at school and had a reputation that made teachers and students alike tread carefully around him.

He usually kept a cold, brooding face, but it always melted away when he stepped into our home and saw me and Nate.

And since Phillip insisted on sticking his head into the line of fire, it saved Nate the trouble of dragging him to the gym for extra training.

After being beaten a few times, Phillip finally behaved himself.

Later, when he entered high school, things started to fall apart for Phillip academically.

Those extra twenty-five years of memories had carried him through elementary and middle school with ease, but high school was a different beast. He hadn’t looked at a high school textbook in years, and most of what he once knew had evaporated.

In my previous life, after he failed the SATs, Nate and I had spent a fortune sending him abroad to polish his résumé. Afraid of hurting his confidence, we lied and told him he’d gotten in on his own merits.

But this time, with his grandparents spoiling him rotten-letting him play on his phone in class, buying him the latest gaming consoles-his self-control deteriorated further.

Unsurprisingly, his grades plummeted.

Within just a few months, he dropped from the honors class to an ordinary class.

On the day the scores for the SATs were released, Phillip found out he had performed worse than he had in our previous life.

Meanwhile, Axel became the top scorer in the entire city and immediately trended on social media.

As his mother, I also ended up on the trending list-because of a news feature about my donations to child abuse rescue organizations.

Ever since witnessing Axel’s suffering in the previous life, I could no longer stand by and ignore abused children. Over the years, I had donated thousands and helped hundreds escape dangerous homes.

It was only a drop in the bucket, but saving even one child made it worth it.
At my son’s celebration banquet, Nate was ecstatic. He spared no expense, booking an entire hotel and inviting the whole extended family.

My sister and my parents were among the guests.

Originally, I hadn’t intended to invite them. Nate and I had already planned to move to another city once Axel got into college. But since this might very well be the last time I ever saw them, I decided one final meeting wasn’t the end of the world.
