He Wanted a Nanny, I Returned As the Alpha King’s Luna Chapter 05

I arrived at the banquet three days later, once again dressed in simple, comfortable clothes.
I couldn’t help it. Since learning I was pregnant, David had forbidden me from wearing anything that might be even slightly uncomfortable.

“Georgia?”

Mattew saw me, a smug smile spreading across his face. “I knew it. You were just pretending. You still wanted to see me.”

I didn’t waste a single glance on him. “You’re overthinking it,” I said flatly.

I turned and headed for the center of the dais—the heart of the ceremony, a place reserved only for the highest-ranking members of the pack.

“Stop!”

Mattew grabbed my wrist, his grip so tight I winced in pain.

“Georgia, are you insane?” Mattew hissed, his eyes filled with warning. “That’s the Alpha King and Luna’s spot! Get a grip! You don’t belong there!”

Claire’s shrill, nauseating voice cut through the air. “Georgia, you still have the nerve to flaunt that fake necklace? Do you have any idea what kind of event this is?”

Her shout drew dozens of eyes.

I wasn’t going to stand for her false accusations any longer.

I held up the necklace, showing everyone the tiny, intricate mark on the clasp—the Alpha of Blackwood’s personal sigil, impossible to forge.

The expressions on the faces around me shifted instantly.

Claire’s face turned ugly, but she quickly twisted it into a more vicious sneer. “Georgia! You have some nerve! How dare you steal the Luna’s necklace!”

“I didn’t steal it!” I shot back.

“Still lying!” Claire shrieked, pointing at me. “You’re a rogue! How could you possibly own something like that? If you didn’t steal it, how did you get it?”

Wolves around us began to whisper, their gazes turning to disgust and contempt.

“Stealing a sacred artifact is a major crime.”

“How shameless!”

Someone looked hesitantly at Mattew. “Alpha Mattew, is she one of yours?”

Mattew looked at me, a flicker of conflict in his eyes, before he turned his face away and shook his head coldly. “No.”

Just then, Claire lunged, reaching to rip the necklace from my throat.

I dodged.

But in the next second, someone’s foot shot out and tripped me.

I lost my balance and tumbled backward, my arm slamming hard against the marble floor. A sharp, searing pain shot through me.

“Ah!” I cried out, instinctively clutching my stomach. “It hurts!”

Claire planted her foot on my hand, pinning it to the ground.

She loomed over me, her eyes filled with venom. “I’ll teach you to pretend! I’ll teach you to steal!”

She bent down and grabbed the necklace.

“No!”

CRACK.

The chain snapped.

The moonstone fell to the floor and shattered into a thousand pieces, scattering like broken moonlight across the ground.

The pain in my arm and stomach was so intense I couldn’t move. All I could do was watch as the necklace lay in ruins before me.

“Throw her out!” Claire shrieked at the guards.

“Don’t you dare! I am David’s—”

SLAP!

Claire struck me hard across the face.

SLAP!

Another one.

My face was on fire, and I could taste blood.

“Shut your mouth!” Claire snarled, glaring down at me. “You dare to keep disrespecting the Alpha King with your lies?”

I lifted my head and stared at her coldly. “Claire, you will pay for what you’ve done today.”

She just scoffed as if I was making empty threats.

“Georgia.”

Mattew walked over and crouched in front of me.

He reached out a hand, as if to help me up. “I’m the only one who can help you now. All you have to do is beg me.”

“You know, I already dissolved my mating bond with Claire. If you just apologize, and beg for my forgiveness, I can take you back.”

The emotion on his face looked almost real. It made my stomach churn.

I recoiled from his touch, refusing to look at him. “In your dreams.”

Mattew’s brow tightened. He was about to say something else when the grand doors to the hall were thrown open. A tall, powerful figure stood silhouetted against the light.

“The Alpha King is here.”

Someone whispered it in a hushed, awed tone.

The entire hall fell silent.
