He Came Back With Money After Everything Was Gone Chapter 07

I looked at Nathan’s hand pressed against the car door.

The veins on the back of his hand bulged.

His knuckles were white from force.

“Nathan Reed, move your hand.”

“I won’t!”

He gritted his teeth.

“You’re unstable right now, so I won’t hold it against you. Come home with me.”

He tried to take my suitcase.

I did not let go.

I only looked at him quietly.

“Home? Which home?”

Nathan froze.

His face shifted between pale and livid.

“That was a misunderstanding.”

He explained anxiously.

“Chloe is only my secretary. There’s nothing between us.’

“Vivian, trust me.”

I let go of the suitcase handle and took one step back.

“I trust you.”

Nathan’s eyes lit up.

I looked at the sudden light in his eyes and smiled faintly.

“I trust that you only wanted to upset me,” I continued. “And I trust that you never took my pain

seriously.”

“You thought leaving my father to wait on that rooftop was just a way to teach me a lesson.”

The light in Nathan’s eyes went out.

His body swayed slightly.

“I didn’t…”

He defended himself weakly.

“When your stomach hurt, I got up in the middle of the night to make you oatmeal. You complained that it was too hot and smashed the bowl on the floor. I crouched down to clean up the shards, and you didn’t even look at me.”

I calmly recited the details.

“You took Chloe to a cocktail reception. Someone called her Mrs. Reed. Not only did you not deny it, you smiled and draped your jacket over her shoulders.”

“You knew I had a peanut allergy, but on our anniversary, you bought me a peanut butter cake.”

Nathan’s breathing grew rough.

He stared at me, panic filling his eyes.

“Stop…”

He pleaded.

“Nathan Reed, it’s not that you didn’t love me.’

I looked at him.

“You just loved yourself more. You enjoyed that high horse, that feeling of control.”

“You thought no matter how much you pushed me, I would stay by your side.”

“Now the old me is dead.”

I gripped the suitcase handle again and yanked the car door open.

“Move.”

Nathan did not move.

He pressed against the door, his eyes so red they looked like they might bleed.

“I won’t.”

He suddenly released the door and pulled me hard into his arms.

His strength was overwhelming, squeezing my bones until they hurt.

“Vivian, I was wrong. I really was wrong.”

He murmured incoherently against my ear.

“I’ll get rid of Chloe. I’ll never see her again.”

“I’ll transfer all my assets to you. Everything the Reed family owns will be yours.”

“Don’t go. Please don’t go.”

His tears fell on my neck, burning hot.

I did not struggle.

I simply let my arms hang at my sides and allowed him to hold me.

“Nathan Reed.”

I softly called his name.

“Do you remember what I found in your pocket on our wedding night?”

Nathan’s body went rigid.

Slowly, he released me and looked into my eyes.

“That keychain charm that smelled like Chloe’s perfume.”

I watched his face lose every trace of color.

“You were using it to tease Chloe, then coming back to lecture me.”

“Do you really think I would still want you?”

I pushed him away and got into the cab.

Then I shut the door.

Nathan stood where he was.

When the cab had driven far away, I glanced back.

He was still standing there in the same position.

Motionless.
