My Mafia Husband Smelled Like His Secretary, Who Turned Out To Be My Half-Sister Chapter 03

The amusement park was closed. He wasn’t at the headquarters building either.

Just as I was about to give up and go back to the estate, the nanny finally called. “Donna, Anna’s back. She’s in her room sleeping.”

I leaned my head back against the seat and exhaled. “The Don said he won’t be home tonight.”

“Okay.” I hung up and started driving.

Around the next corner, I saw Jacob’s car.

Under the dim streetlight, his shadow stretched long. His shiny dress shoe tapped against the pavement.

I’d been here yesterday. This was Sophia’s building.

He looked up at a lit window. Didn’t blink.

I followed his gaze. A woman’s silhouette moved faintly behind the curtain.

He looked like the hero in some romance drama. Just standing there, watching her from a distance.

Something inside me cracked.

He waited all night. So did I. Sitting in my car.

When dawn came, Sophia came out of the building. She looked like she’d slept great. When she saw Jacob, her face showed surprise.

That broken-looking man perked up instantly. He smiled and said something to her. She blushed.

They got in his car and left.

I felt like my heart was being squeezed by a thin wire. I couldn’t breathe.

That’s exactly how Jacob was when he chased me—

Devoted. Patient.

I just wasn’t the leading lady anymore.

I followed them to the headquarters building.

From a distance, I watched them keep their space at the entrance. Jacob walked ahead, accepting greetings from his men. Then he casually waved her over.

In front of everyone’s envious eyes, Sophia stepped onto the Don’s private elevator.

Like he was telling the world she had privileges no one else did.

The sight burned.

I sat in my car, fighting back everything I felt, until the nanny called again.

I went home. When Anna hugged me, my nose stung. She sat in my lap, swaying, happily telling me about yesterday.

“I saw Sophia at the amusement park! She played with me for so long.”

I couldn’t breathe.

So Jacob’s sudden decision to take Anna to the park—it was for Sophia.

Being Donna of the Kavac family made it easy to dig into Sophia’s background.

Where she went to school. Her family’s poverty. Her part-time job at the amusement park.

And her social media.

When I saw that photo of Anna’s face pressed against Sophia’s—

Something inside me snapped. The reflection in my phone screen showed Jacob’s tall figure. He was crouching down to take their picture.

Like they were the real family.

Sophia’s social media was full of photos.

His coat draped over her when she had cramps.

His silhouette in the hospital room after she got hurt during a family business inspection.

The little things she’d lost—things he’d been keeping all along.

I felt physically sick.

Tears blurred my makeup. I looked at myself in the mirror—pathetic and ugly. And sad.

I thought if I just ignored the women around Jacob, I could keep pretending everything was fine.

But you don’t buy love by swallowing your pride.

That evening, when the nanny put dinner in front of me, I remembered my weekly habit of bringing Jacob his meal.

I thought about it. Decided to go talk to him.

I drove to the mafia headquarters.

Night fell. The top floor office was bright.

The door was cracked open. The voices inside made me freeze.
