My Marriage: His Debt to Another Woman Chapter 11

“Jake, you can’t—”

“Enough.” Jake cut her off. “This is my child. I’m the father. I’m not going to pretend I didn’t see this.”

Chloe stared at him, her expression one of pure disbelief.

But I just found it pathetic.

His defense meant nothing to me now.

“Elara, I’ll take you home.” Jake turned to me, his tone softening.

“We signed the papers, Jake.” I looked at him. “That house is yours. It’s not my home anymore.”

With that, I turned and walked away.

Jake moved to follow, but Chloe clung to his arm, refusing to let go.

I used the moment to slip into the Uber that had just pulled up to the curb.

As the car pulled away, I glanced in the rearview mirror. They were still standing there, caught in the middle of a public argument, a farce that had nothing to do with me anymore.

I looked away.

“Green Street,” I told the driver.

The day I decided on the divorce, I’d used the money from my Etsy shop to rent an apartment.

I used to think Jake and our marriage were my foundation. Now I knew the only person I could rely on was myself.
