My Husband Faked His Death Chapter 10

The clerk smiled when she saw me. “Back so soon?”
“I found Jake. I’m here to restore his status.”
“I knew you’d find him. Congratulations!”
I nodded and didn’t say more.
As we left, Jake called out to me. “Mia, I really do love you. That night at Lily’s, I was drunk. I mistook her for you…”
I turned my head, my voice cold. “Don’t say things like that. You make me sick.”
After picking up the divorce decree, I walked to the curb to hail a taxi. Ryan pulled up in his car. “Where to? I’ll give you a ride.”
I looked at him pointedly. “Ryan, I’m already divorced from Jake.”
“So?”
“So we never really had much to do with each other. No need to start now.”
Ryan hooked his finger and pulled down his sunglasses, revealing a pair of narrow, flirtatious bedroom eyes.
He was handsome, with slightly upturned eyes that narrowed when he smiled, as if everything was under his control.
“Ms. Clarke, I helped you get divorced. It wouldn’t look good for you to pretend you don’t know me now, would it?”
There was still a trace of wariness in my eyes. He shrugged and changed his tone.
“Mia, let’s talk business. Now the company is all yours. I can finally rest easy about our partnership.”
