My Unfazed Mind Saves Me Chapter 08

Audrey decided she’d spent too much time away from Victor and planted herself at the Sterling manor.

Once I was well enough, I left the medical wing and moved into a proper bedroom. Audrey seemed

determined to become my best friend. Every chance she got, she’d show up wherever I was.

Right from the start, she showed up with a photo album. “Look – Victor and me, all the way back to diapers.

Every single picture. Our parents always said we’d end up married.”

I nodded, genuinely curious. “Oh really? So why didn’t you?”

I swear I wasn’t trying to be cruel. She brought it up. I just asked the obvious question.

Audrey’s face crumbled.

“Are you making fun of me? You think just because you’re marrying Victor, you’re better than me?!”

She ran out crying. I stood there, completely lost.

What did I say?

The following afternoon, I ran into her in the garden. Her eyes were red and puffy. I couldn’t tell if she’d been

crying all night.

But the second she saw me, she latched onto my arm like nothing had happened. We walked together while

she talked.

“Victor and I used to play in this garden all the time. Once, I tripped and got hurt, and he carried me on his back all the way to the doctor. He was so worried. I wonder if he’d still do that for me…”

Her gaze drifted off somewhere far away.

Halfway through the garden, she yelped and went down.

“Chloe, just because you’re jealous of me and Victor doesn’t mean you can shove me!”

Victor was walking toward us from across the garden. He looked at Audrey on the ground, then at me

standing there with a blank face.

“What happened?”

I scratched my head. “She says I pushed her because I was jealous of you two.”

I replayed the last few moments in my head. I honestly couldn’t tell if I’d brushed against her.

So I just apologized. “I’m sorry. I was watching these two bees on a flower and completely zoned out. I

might’ve actually bumped you without realizing it.”

“Here, let me help you up.”

Audrey bit down on her lip. She wasn’t about to let this go that easily.

She smacked my hand away, scrambled up in tears, and grabbed onto Victor’s arm. “Victor, she hates me.

Why else would she push me like that?”

Victor sighed. “Audrey. Enough.”

He’d seen through the performance the second he walked up. By now, he knew me well enough.

At my level of obliviousness, I couldn’t hurt a fly. I was the kind of person who’d help a con artist carry their bags.

Her plan had flopped. Audrey balled her fists.

She was furious. All she’d done was go overseas for a while. And while she was gone, some nobody had swooped in and taken the man she’d wanted for years.

She was going to get rid of me no matter what.

Victor had clearly reached his limit. “You’ve been here long enough. Time to go home.”

Audrey paused. “Fine. But my birthday’s later this week. I want to have my party here at the manor. After that,

I’ll leave. Promise.”

Victor had too much business with the Windsor family to refuse. He agreed.

On her way past me, Audrey bumped my shoulder and dropped her voice. “Just you wait. I’ve got something

special planned for you at the party.”

I blinked. My face lit up.

Victor raised an eyebrow. “What did she say to you?”

I beamed. “She said she had something special planned for me!”
