The Donna Left, The Don Went Crazy Chapter 10

The Donna Left, The Don Went Crazy Chapter 10

Ivy held onto Gabriel’s arm, walking through the manor’s iron gates without glancing sideways.

In her peripheral vision, the black figure standing in the heavy rain was as stiff as a statue. Alexander was right there, but she wouldn’t even spare him a look.

Back in the villa, the heating dispelled the chill from her body.

“I’ll make something to eat.” Gabriel took off his coat, rolled up his sleeves, and walked to the open kitchen.

Ivy sat at the bar, watching him skillfully chop vegetables and sear steaks. The warm yellow light fell on him, creating a domestic atmosphere she hadn’t felt in a long time.

Once, she had fantasized about moments like this with Alexander. But all he gave her were cold armories, endless waiting, and a back that reeked of blood.

“What are you thinking about?” Gabriel handed her a glass of red wine, his eyes gentle.

Ivy took the glass and looked out the floor-to-ceiling bulletproof window. The rain was still falling, and that figure was still standing there, like an abandoned guard dog.

“Thinking… that it would have been better if I had never met him.”

She tipped her head back and downed the wine. The spicy liquid slid down her throat, igniting the grievances she had suppressed for so long.

That night, Ivy drank a lot.

She rambled on about the past, about the days living in fear amidst gunfire, and how she forced herself to become cold-blooded to be a qualified donna.

Gabriel listened quietly the whole time, occasionally refilling her glass or covering the back of her hand with his warm palm.

That ordinary, stable companionship, devoid of any danger, made her feel more relaxed than ever before.

Finally, she was too drunk to keep her eyes open.

In a daze, she felt her body being lifted. Gabriel carried her bridal style, walking steadily to the bedroom.

He placed her on the soft bed, took off her shoes, and tucked her in.

There were no inappropriate moves, not even a touch that took advantage of her vulnerability.

“Goodnight, Ivy.” He placed a restrained goodnight kiss on her forehead. “Here, you are safe.”

Alexander stood in the storm all night.

Rainwater ran down his hair into his collar, bone-chillingly cold. But he felt no cold, because watching the warm light from the window, his heart had already been burned to ash.

He watched the silhouettes: Gabriel cooking for her, the two clinking glasses. He watched her get drunk and fall into that man’s arms, watched her get carried into the room.

Jealousy gnawed at his heart like a poisonous snake.

Even though he used to be the Don of Sicily, he had never given her such an ordinary, warm night. What he gave her was thrilling escapes and the cold violence of neglect.

The next morning, the rain stopped.

The villa’s gates opened, and Ivy and Gabriel walked out side by side.

Alexander moved his stiff legs, trying to step forward, but found them heavy as lead. His previous gunshot wound, soaked in rain all night, was inflamed and swollen; every step felt like dancing on knife points.

“Iyy..”

He spoke hoarsely, his voice sounding terrible, like broken bellows.

Ivy stopped and turned to look at him. Her gaze was terrifyingly calm, as if looking at a stone by the roadside. “Alexander, you’re not dead yet?”

Alexander’s heart seized. He forced an ugly smile. “Ivy, I just wanted to see you… my wound opened up, it hurts…”

In the past, even if he got a paper cut, her eyes would redden with distress, and she would rush to find the médical kit. He despicably tried to evoke a shred of her pity.

However, Ivy just coldly swept her eyes over his bleeding trouser leg, the corner of her mouth lifting in a mocking arc.

“Hurts? Then go die.”

“Alexander, before, if you got hurt even a little, I would be heartbroken to death, wishing I could take the pain for you. But now…

She took a step closer, looking down at him, her words piercing his heart.

“Even if you died in front of me right now and rotted in the mud, I would only feel that you blocked my way and dirtied my shoes.

Boom-

These words smashed Alexander’s last bit of dignity like a sledgehammer.

A metallic taste rose in his throat; he could no longer suppress the surging blood.

“Pfft-!”

A mouthful of fresh blood sprayed onto the muddy ground.

The world spun before his eyes, turning grey and white. He fell straight backward, crashing heavily into the cold, muddy water.

In the last moment before his consciousness faded, Alexander saw Ivy take Gabriel’s arm and get into the car without looking

back.

She didn’t even spare him a final glance.
