Set You Free, My Lord Chapter 05

Five years later.

A foggy town in the Pacific Northwest. The air smelled of ocean and cedar.

I stood at the construction site of a new community clinic. I held the final blueprints in my hands.

This town knew me as their best architect. This was my new beginning.

This clinic was my twelfth project. It was one of my proudest works.

A high priestess and an elven friend helped me fake my death. They snuck me onto a different cargo ship. I simply vanished. traveled a long time before settling in this remote coastal town.

The rune amulet on my body completely cut off the bond’s connection. I vanished from Dorian’s world for good.

For five years, pure, unadulterated hatred for him was the fuel that built my new life.

That hate burned like magma in my heart. It gave me the strength to stand back up.

“Odette, how is the progress?” a warm voice called from behind.

I turned and saw Dr. Liam walking toward me.

He was tall and handsome. He had chestnut hair and gentle brown eyes. He was my anchor. Solid and safe.

Liam was the chief doctor here. He was a brilliant doctor. More importantly, he had a genuinely kind heart.

“Almost done,” I smiled. I handed him the blueprints. “I added stained glass windows in the pediatrics ward, just like you asked.

Now the kids can see rainbows.”

Pride flashed in Liam’s eyes. “You are always so thoughtful. So… dinner at the usual place? That Italian restaurant by the sea?”

“Of course,” I nodded. It was our routine. After every workday, we ate together. We talked about work, or just enjoyed each

other’s company.

Suddenly, the foreman yelled, “Odette! Someone’s here for you!”

I looked where he pointed. A figure stood at the foggy edge of the site. He walked closer slowly. My blood instantly froze.

Dorian.

Five years had passed. He looked awful. His once perfect face was now gaunt. His once-piercing eyes were now sunken pits of exhaustion and despair.

He looked like a ghost lost for centuries. A deathly sorrow clung to him like a shroud.

His black hair wasn’t perfect anymore. It was messy. His expensive suit was wrinkled.

Clearly, these five years were hell for him.

But I felt no pity. I only felt boiling, burning hate.

“How did you find me?” My voice was as cold as a blade. Every word carried a biting chill.

“I… I searched every corner of North America,” his voice was hoarse and broken. He sounded like he hadn’t spoken in ages.” Five whole years… I went to every city, every town… Odette, please. Give me a chance to explain.”

“Explain?” I scoffed. I held up a hand to stop him from coming closer. “Explain what? Your bloodline prejudice? Your blind obedience to tradition? Or your ten years of humiliation and coldness toward me?”

Dorian turned even paler. “I remember now… All my memories came back…” He suddenly grabbed his head. His body shook violently. He seemed to be in agonizing pain. “My past life memories… I remember how I treated you those ten years I remember every hurtful word I said, every cruel thing I did…”

His eyes were full of pain and regret. That desperate look made him seem like a man driven mad by torture

“Odette, please… let me make it up to you… Anything… I’ll spend my immortality making amends…”

“Make it up to me?” My eyes were ice-cold. I didn’t hide my hate at all. “Here’s a fact for you, Dorian. I already died once I paid my past life’s debt with my life. Now, I hate you enough to be reborn. I hate you enough to live stronger every single day of these five years. So, get the hell out of my life!”

At this tense moment, Liam walked over with two coffees.

He sensed the danger instantly.

He put down the coffee and stepped right in front of me.

“Is there a problem, Odette?” Liam’s voice was gentle but firm. He shielded me with his body. His brown eyes stared at Dorian warily.

I purposely grabbed Liam’s arm. I gave him my most genuine, warm smile.

That move stabbed into Dorian’s heart like a knife.

I could feel the dangerous aura radiating off him.

It was a vampire’s primal instinct. Wild, violent, and threatening.

But in the end, he forced those urges down. He backed away toward the exit slowly.

“I will use my immortality to prove I deserve your forgiveness,” he vowed hoarsely. His voice held a desperate obsession.

The door slammed shut. I leaned against the wall, exhausted. All my strength drained away.

“Who was that man?” Liam asked softly. He reached out to comfort me.

I closed my eyes. My voice was tired and bitter. “A nightmare I thought I had buried.”
