My Husband Framed Me For His Mother’s Murder Chapter 07

I raised my head and said, “Officer, wait. I have a request: I want you to go to my home and get that cream-colored trench coat.”

As soon as I said that, the room went silent, and Michael’s face instantly changed. Panic flashed in his eyes. He glanced at Jessica.

Jessica clutched her hands together tightly. Her breathing quickened.

I saw all of it and became even more certain that the trench coat held the key.

The figure the woman doing her workout downstairs saw wasn’t me at all.

It was Jessica wearing my coat.

I spoke firmly. “I’m sure there’s evidence on that coat, test it for fingerprints and hair, you’ll find the real killer.”

The officer thought for a moment, then nodded and called other officers to go to my home for the coat.

I knew this was my only chance, if Jessica’s traces weren’t on that coat, I would have no way to defend myself.

But Jessica’s obvious panic told me she had been in a hurry and hadn’t cleaned up properly.

The wait was agonizing, every second felt like torture.

I sat in my chair, praying over and over.

About half an hour later, an assistant returned with the cream-colored trench coat sealed in an evidence bag.

The ME took the bag and immediately ran tests.

Michael’s expression stayed dark as he kept glancing at Jessica, who grew even more nervous and kept rubbing her hands together.

Soon, the ME returned to the interrogation room with a test report.

“Officer, the results are in. On the cream-colored coat, we found two distinct sets of fingerprints and several strands of female hair.”

The ME paused, looked at Jessica, and continued, “After comparison, besides Emily Carter’s own prints, the others belong to Jessica Blake. The prints are fresh, meaning they were left recently.”

“What?” Jessica shot to her feet. Her legs buckled, and she almost fell.

Michael quickly spoke up to defend her. “Officer, there has to be a mistake. Why would Jessica touch Emily’s coat?”

I laughed coldly, stood up, and stared at Jessica. “Did you forget? When you wore my coat and pretended to be me, then pushed Patricia, you accidentally left your prints and hair behind.”

“I didn’t. I didn’t wear your coat. I didn’t push anyone,” Jessica screamed hysterically.

“We’re best friends. It’s normal for my prints and hair to be on your clothes. That doesn’t prove anything.”

Michael jumped in, “Yeah, Officer. Even if Jessica touched Emily’s coat, it doesn’t prove she pushed my mom. That’s not evidence.”

“Not evidence?” A cold smile curled my lips. “What about the surveillance footage?”

Hearing the word “surveillance,” Michael’s face turned dark.

But then the panic in his face slowly faded.

The officer logged into my home security system on a laptop.

But the screen showed “No Internet Connection.” No footage could be viewed.

“The system is offline. We can’t see anything,” the officer said.

Michael let out a breath, and Jessica’s expression eased a little.

The other officers in the room looked disappointed; their eyes toward me grew more suspicious.

I knew what they were thinking. They thought I was just stalling, making up lies to get out of trouble.

But I stayed calm, letting out another cold laugh as I walked over to the laptop.

“Michael, you’re celebrating too soon. Did you really think we only had that one security system in our home?”
