He Punished Me for Erasing Her Ink, by Carving His Rage Into My Flesh Chapter 07

Adrian had a thousand ways to kill Isla.

But death felt too easy.

He preferred to break her slowly.

Isla plummeted through the night sky. Her body lost control from sheer terror, and her bladder failed.

When she hit the lowest point, the cable snapped tight around her body.

The crushing force made blood burst from her mouth.

But that was only the beginning.

The mechanical arm slowly reeled the cable back toward the helicopter.

She would face this brush with death repeatedly.

Adrian knew Isla was terrified of heights.

So he would make fear break her.

Hours later, the satellite phone inside the helicopter finally rang.

“Mr. Blackwell, we found Mrs. Blackwell’s trail.”

The men who had besieged Claire were all captured and brought in.

From them, Adrian learned the truth he should have known that night.

After Isla left, the warehouse door had been forced open from the outside.

A masked tactical team stormed in with guns raised.

They took control of the scene within seconds.

One of the men carried Claire away.

Adrian asked urgently, “Then where did my wife go?”

No one had an answer.

He issued a final, ruthless command.

That night, the men from the warehouse were dumped in a slum with broken hands.

When I woke from one nightmare after another, I found myself in a white hospital room filled with medical equipment.

This place was nothing like an ordinary hospital.

It was a military medical center, reserved for high-level personnel.

I understood at once.

I never thought he would come back for me.

Beyond the glass wall, a man saw that I was awake. He unlocked the door with facial recognition and walked into the room.

I said his name softly.

“Thank you for today.”

Nolan Hayes walked toward me.

“You don’t have to thank me, Claire. If I hadn’t called you today, I would have been too late.”

He gently squeezed my hand, and a warm strength passed into my body.

“How did you let yourself end up in a situation like that? That was dangerous. Really dangerous.”

I said nothing.

I didn’t want to tear open the wound in my heart, even in front of the man who had grown up with me.

Adrian had his young mistress.

And I had a childhood best friend I had known for more than ten years.

But after I fell in love, I kept Nolan at the distance of an ordinary friend.

Not everyone was like Adrian, able to love someone else with no conscience and no bottom line.

When we were children, Nolan’s parents served in the military, so he was often left in my mother’s care.

But in middle school, he was called into early training on base and began preparing for military service.

After that, we saw each other less and less. Most of what we knew about each other came through phone calls and texts.

This time, he had called to tell me something.

There had been a cure found for my Butterfly Disease.

Unlike the ineffective potions Adrian had once tracked down for me, this treatment required only one injection.

Within a month, I would be normal.

Now, medical staff were injecting the pale blue serum into my body.

I looked at the man beside me and thanked him again.

Other than gratitude, I didn’t know what else I could give him.

After so many years in the military, Nolan had risen to a position most people could never reach in a lifetime.

A man like him probably lacked nothing.
