I Heard His Heart But Lost Mine Chapter 06

I Heard His Heart But Lost Mine Chapter 06

He lunged at me, hands shaking, voice breaking. “Blood… why is there blood from?”

“It’s from last night. When you shoved me to the floor.”

where is it coming

I peeled his hands off me, a bitter smile on my face. “I told you. You said I was faking.”

Julian’s face drained of color. “I… I didn’t know… I thought—”

“You thought I was lying.” I laughed – at him, at myself, at all of it.

Ten years together, and he believed every word out of Chloe’s mouth without blinking. But with me – all he ever had was doubt.

Sometimes I genuinely couldn’t tell. Did he love me, or did he hate me?

Even a stranger would’ve treated me better.

It didn’t matter anymore. I was done caring.

“I’m going upstairs to shower and change.”

Julian grabbed my wrist hard. My calm unnerved him — he didn’t know what to do with a version of me that didn’t fight back.

His eyes went glassy. “We need to go to the hospital first.”

“I’m not going.” I shook him off. “Let it go. It’s just my period. I haven’t been sleeping well — it came early.”

Julian’s lips trembled, but a wave of relief washed over his face.

“You’re sure it’s just your period?”

“Why would I lie to you?”

Most of the blood was still on the storage room floor. What had soaked through my skirt was just enough to pass for a heavy flow.

Julian let it go. His voice softened.

“Don’t bring up divorce again. I mean it. If you hadn’t pushed me that far, I wouldn’t have had to

lock you in there.”

Same script as always. Everything was my fault.

As if I was the one who’d forced his hand. As if bringing up divorce gave him no choice but Shap

But he never once asked himself why I’d said it in the first place.

I smiled. I didn’t have the energy to argue anymore.

By tonight, I’d be on a plane out of this city. I’d mail him the divorce papers. All he’d have to do war sign.

“Okay.”

One word. That was all it took to make Julian’s eyes light up.

His smile spread slowly. “See? This is all I need from you, Audrey. Just… behave.”

My step faltered on the stairs. I kept going, climbed to my room, and shut the door behind me.

By the time I came back down, Julian was rushing out of the kitchen with a bowl of chicken soup he’d clearly tried to make from scratch.

He’d never cooked a day in his life. His hands were covered in fresh blisters, but he didn’t seem to notice. He was too busy looking at me – hopeful, almost boyish.

“Want to try some?”

I sat down. I picked up a spoon and took a sip.

I had to give him credit for trying. Julian had zero talent for cooking.

The soup was burnt and bitter – the kind that coated my whole mouth and wouldn’t let go.

I drank every last drop without changing my expression.

“How was it?”

“Not bad.”

Julian didn’t say another word. But his inner voice was glowing.

[I love you so much.]

¡I want to make this for you every day. Forever.]

! stopped halfway out of my chair.

“What’s wrong?” Julian asked.

I looked down. “It’s nothing.”

It’s just that we don’t have forever, Julian. We don’t even have today.
