On Our Wedding Day, He Married Someone Else Chapter 02

The young voice burned with the fierce sincerity I hadn’t heard in years.

I froze, palm opening involuntarily, pills scattering all over the floor.

The 28-year-old Silas saw me as a burden to his happiness.

But the 18-year-old Silas saw me as his only rose to protect.

Dad had cheated on Mom with Marnie’s mom since I was little.

Kids at school called me fatherless.

Led by Marnie, they dumped all the dirty work on me—taking out trash, cleaning bathrooms.

I did it silently, but they still called me gross and smelly.

I sat alone in the corner for two years until Silas transferred to my class.

He became my desk mate.

From that day on, he took all my dirty chores.

He tutored me and filled my water bottle.

When no one walked me home, he followed silently behind me.

When Marnie mocked me, he cornered her at once and cornered her against the wall.

“The daughter of a homewrecker should know her place.”

“Bully Corinne again, and you’ll regret it.”

With Silas around, no one dared hurt me.

I asked why he treated me so kindly when he kept to himself.

Silas’s eyes turned soft as he touched my cheek gently.

“I’m unwanted too, Corinne.”

“The day before I transferred to Northwood High, I was bullied just like you. The second I saw you, I knew I had to be strong to protect the girl I cared about.”

“Corinne Shaw, let me protect you forever.”

My world lit up because of Silas.

We pinky-promised to get into the same college and be together openly.

Our blissful dreams were shattered back in senior year.

Marnie lured me into the school gym storage closet.

A group of thugs surrounded me, tore my uniform apart, and pointed cameras at my exposed body.

When Silas found me, his eyes turned bloodshot. He immediately lunged at them and started fighting.

In the middle of the struggle, Marnie got hurt.

His hands shaking violently, he quickly covered me with his clothes.

“Don’t be scared, Corinne.”

“I’m here. No one can hurt you.”

Silas had already gotten early admission to Havendale University.

But after that night, he was sent to juvenile detention and lost his shot at college forever.

I was a sophomore when Silas was released.

Dad only cared about Marnie and her mom. He didn’t give me a single cent for living expenses.

Silas worked construction, his body covered in bruises.

His young shoulders carried my tuition and Mom’s medical bills.

The day I graduated college, I gave up my spot in graduate school.

I buried myself in hard work alongside Silas, building our company from the ground up.

We loved fiercely, sure our future would be bright.

But one year before the company went public, Marnie got hired as Silas’s assistant.

At first, he made Marnie’s life miserable, saying he was only avenging me.

Then, on my 25th birthday, Silas didn’t come home all night.

I was on the verge of breaking down when Marnie sent over their intimate photos.

“Happy birthday, Corinne. Do you like your gift?”

My thoughts snapped back.

I curled into the corner of the bed, clutching my phone like it was the whole world.

“Silas… Silas…”

“I’m here.”

The young boy answered softly, again and again.

“Corinne, I’m here. You don’t have to be scared of anything.”

“Fight back. I want you to watch everyone who hurt you pay.”

I wiped my tears and nodded hard.

Right. With 18-year-old Silas, I had nothing to fear.
