The Wedding Red Sheet Became My Death Parachute Chapter 09

The Wedding Red Sheet Became My Death Parachute Chapter 09

I gripped my phone, my hand trembling.

“Grant, don’t do anything crazy. She’s your own daughter!”

Grant laughed hysterically on the other end.

“What daughter?! As long as I can save Amber, as long as I get the money, I don’t care about anything else!”

“Shut up! You have thirty minutes! Bring the money to the Old Mill District! Call the cops, and you’ll

be picking up a body!”

The call went dead.

I immediately dialed the officer in charge of the case.

“Officer, Grant Sterling has escaped and kidnapped my daughter”.

In less than five minutes, I was in a police cruiser.

A squad of SWAT officers, fully armed, raced toward the abandoned factories in the Old Mill

District.

During the drive, I forced myself to stay calm.

Grant was at the end of his rope; he just wanted money.

As long as the money was on the table, he wouldn’t dare actually kill her.

When we arrived at the site, the night was pitch black, save for a dim, yellow light on the top floor of

a factory.

The police quickly cordoned off the area and positioned snipers.

I took a megaphone and walked toward the building.

“Grant! I’m here! I have the money! Let Daisy go!”

A figure leaned halfway out from the roof,

Grant held a rusty blade tightly against Daisy’s throat.

“Where’s the money?! Throw it up!”

Daisy, held in Grant’s arms, wasn’t even crying. Instead, she screamed at me.

“Mommy, give him the money! Daddy said if we get the money, we can save Auntie Amber! Then the three of us can be together forever!”

Hearing Daisy’s words, a chill ran from the soles of my feet to the top of my head.

My own daughter.

Even with a knife to her throat held by her own father, all she could think about was helping the

cheat and the traitor get my money.

The hand holding the megaphone dropped limply to my side.

The officer beside me urgently nudged me to keep talking to stabilize the suspect.

I looked at that small figure on the roof.

My voice was as cold as ice.

“Grant, listen carefully. I don’t have any money. And even if I did, I wouldn’t give you a single cent”.

Grant froze, clearly not expecting that response.

“Evelyn, are you crazy?! You don’t care if your daughter lives or dies?!”

I looked up, staring him straight in the eyes.

“She isn’t my daughter. Not since the moment she started calling me a ‘bad bitch’ for the sake of the person who destroyed our family. She’s already dead to me”.

Daisy wailed from the roof.

“You’re a bad Mommy! You won’t give us money for Auntie Amber! I hate you!”

In that moment of Grant’s distraction and rage, the SWAT team-having moved in from the rear-

pounced.

With a dull thud, Grant was tackled to the ground, the knife skittering away.

Daisy was rescued, but she struggled fiercely, even biting a SWAT officer’s arm.

“Let my Daddy go! You’re all bad people! I want to go to Auntie Amber!”

Grant, pinned to the floor, continued to roar at me.

….

“Evelyn, you’ll burn in hell! Amber won’t let you get away with this!”

I walked up to him and looked down.

“Grant, you can take your ‘true love and reflect on it in a prison cell for the next twenty years. As for your Amber, she’ll be joining you soon”.

The police dragged Grant away.

Daisy was brought before me.

Her face was a mess of tears and snot, and she glared at me with pure venom.

I didn’t acknowledge her. I turned to the officer.

“Officer, please contact her grandparents. I am relinquishing my parental rights”.
